Apologies if this has been asked/answered before I did look but could not find anything.

This is a problem I have been having for some time. I have had this problem and still have it on both Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers, and over several updates of both.

When I want to download, say, updates to my UK POIs I go to the Free Downloads/Download FREE POIs webpage where I am presented with a list of the countries. This usually defaults to the UK.

However, below the list of countries there are no Categories listed.
Despite clicking on "REFRESH POI List" nothing happens after it goes back and refreshed the list.

I even try another country and still nothing.

The only way I find I can resolve it is to use CCleaner or similar and clear out Browser's cache, history etc.

Why?

Is there something I am missing here? Is ther an easier way other than running a cleanup?

For completeness I am trying to download TomTom OV2 POIs.

Thanks & regards

I have just done my usual run of CCleaner and still can't see any POI categories. Also tried refreshing POI list and still nothing.

Now wonder what to do next.

Try loading the page again. Then leave it for a bit. Sometimes it takes a while to populate.

If that doesn't work try a Forced Refresh from the Server - hold down CTRL and tap F5. Then waiti a bit again...

It's always been a bit flakey for me at that point too. there must be some convoluted coding going on there.

Sometimes it works fine, other times it's a real struggle.

I see you have already tried it with another country and still had no luck, but I wonder if you've tried this..
For me, the thing that works most often is to ADD another country to the tick-list as well as the UK. That seems to have more luck loading the POI list. Then I go back and untick the new country and it refreshes to the UK only successfully..

Paul
Thanks, the "Forced Refresh from the Server - hold down CTRL F5" trick worked (well this time!!).
Thanks!
However, why does this happen anyway?

Andy
Thanks.
Had tried this before, and again today, and no luck for me but Paul's suggestion worked - at least this time ......

Then I shall definitely add it to my list of things to try too! Thumbs Up

Maybe a note about it could be added to the webpage itself?

Not sure why but when you load a page from the internet a lot of the time they are a cached version held by your ISP. The CTRL+F5 trick forces IE to reload a copy from the source server and not the ISP cache. It's possible the script gets corrupted on the ISP cache and so fails to run...

Anyway it works with any website you might be having issues with.

Andy - yes agree with that!
Perhaps Darren will pick it up and include it.

Paul - did not know it forced a download to ISP's cache.

Thanks to you both, hope this workaround works as it is quicker than running CCleaner etc as this deletes other things I wanted to leave.

Does Ctrl-F5 work for other browsers (like Firefox) too?

Typically, the POI download page is loading perfectly for me today, so I can't check if it helps!

The other way (that works every time I've used it), is to click the Download button. This brings up an error message and clicking Back seems to do the trick (probably because this route is not in the ISP cache).

Andy/Oldboy - thanks for your further comments.

Andy - yes, works for Firefox as that is my browser at the moment and was what I tried earlier with success.

Oldboy - clicking on the "Download" button has NEVER worked for me, hence the posting on the Forum. Maybe Darren and his guys could make that button do a CTRL/F5 then that would seem to solve the problem.

Regards

I think we are all saying that it would be nice if SOME way could be found to make that page load properly without all these workrounds.

Firefox is CTRL+shift+r to do a forced reset. Replace CTRL with Command on Mac.
