Apologies if this has already been discussed (I couldn't find it if it has), but how do I install the voice packs that can be downloaded with the speed camera database on to my 3790?
Thanks |

They should be installed using POILoader in the same way as for the POIs. Unzip the voice files first, save to the folder you use for POIs and run POILoader. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You'll need to use the .wav file types as your 3790 doesn't support .mp3 format.
Make sure all the files have the same name. e.g
gatso_thirty.bmp
gatso_thirty.gpx or .csv
gatso_thirty.wav
Google for sox.exe. I found this as a download from poi factory. Apparently an older version is better.
Place this self supporting executable file in the poiloader folder.
Usually C:\Program Files\Garmin\POI Loader
You need to end up with poiloader.exe and sox.exe in the same folder.
This little tool basically makes the .wav files work! Some kind of converter.
Anyway.............
When you have all your poi's and voice files in ONE folder, run poiloader in express mode, ensuring you select FEET/MPH. Assuming of course you're using the UK cameras that is!
This stuff is now ingrained in my brain after all the fantasic support from Kremmen and the help pages on here!
Hopefully i've not missed a step!
Cheers

So did I at first but these newer units don't apparently. My 1490 doesn't. I checked good ole google first to confirm though! |

Thanks Darren, but I've tried that twice, and I still get the garmin bong. I assume there is nothing new to creating a poi folder than before...this is what I've been doing for as long as I can remember...
I have a folder that contains various poi's (from the poi downloads page here), and each time I update the traffic cameras, I delete the old traffic cameras from the existing poi folder, then unzip the new camera database and copy the new files in to the existing poi folder. The only difference now is I'm also copying in the new voice files as well.
Then I load them on with poi loader, in express mode.
Have I missed something, should I be doing something within the nuvi itself to select custom alerts, or loading using manual mode? |

You may want to read the rest of this thread, my advice was wrong _________________ Darren Griffin |

Heart in the right place though!
If you delete all poi's from your garmin using poiloader first. It's best to start from a clean sheet.
Re-upload your poi's and voice files following my previous comments you should be ok. Once uploaded, if go into the actual device and check the custom poi's are in place.
Where to/Extras/Custom Poi's. At this point i'm sure you can change the bong from single tone to continuous.
Hopefully this will resolve it! |

Thanks chaps for the help there, it's appreciated...I should have known to use the wav files rather than mp3's, I'm a broadcast production sound engineer and mp3 files are the bane of my life, and to be avoided at all costs!
The sox.exe file was sorted, but I had to reboot my pc to get it to work, as without rebooting I was getting a cyclic pair of error messages, so that might be worth noting for the next person who asks.
But after all that....having been out today, I found the voice files too annoying to use, the volume of them is a around 30% louder than the garmin voice so they come out much louder than the normal navigation voice, and (this is just a personal thing), I found the voice annoyingly stern, aka Mr Chumbley Warner.
Thanks again |

There are more here for you to try and you can always alter the volume to suit your preference if needed. _________________ Darren Griffin

Very welcome Timlofts
I've noticed this too regarding the sound level. I have used Audacity to alter these files and change the dB levels. It's free software too.
It's a bit hit and miss though. As Darren has posted, there are other files available.
Cheers |
