The new full Europe maps are larger than the 2GB internal memory on the device.
If your device has an SD card slot, you can install a 4GB SD or SDHC card and add the maps to that (but check compatibility here. - older models cannot use SDHC cards!).
But the XXL doesn't have a slot... in which case Home should have offered you the choice of five "zoned maps" (see here for more details).
You are still entitled to ALL the zoned maps, but will only be able to install one at a time.
Do you remember it offering that option? It might have messed up - Home is not the brightest knife in the software drawer....
Let us know what it said and we can offer advice to get it to start again, hopefully with a more suitable download.. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Home SHOULD handle all that... i.e. it should:
1. check the map you currently have on the device
2. decide you are entitled to the latest map guarantee
3. download the new map to your PC
4. remove the old map
5. install the new map to the device.
Here's what I'd do next...
1. Make sure you have made a FULL backup using Windows Explorer (not Home) - instructions are on the forum. This is vital before you start deleting stuff in the next steps.
2. Using Windows Explorer again, check this folder on your PC:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\map.
You should find the new downloaded map there either as a .cab archive file or as a folder with the map's name containing 2 .zip files, a .tlv file and 2 .gif files
(Make sure you have Windows Explorer set to show the file extensions (on the Tools menu / Folder Options / View tab, UN-tick where it says "Hide extensions for known file types)).
If it is there, use these instructions to install the map manually:
