I haven't bought my GPS system yet, but am seriously looking at TomTom to be used with my Packard Bell PocketGear 2030.

I'm curious about possible issues with the volume of messages output by a PDA. I'm a little deaf (though not stone deaf!). Can hear the usual stuff on the radio etc, but wondering if the PDA's speaker is up to giving a clear enough audio signal?

If that's not good enough what options are there to boost the audio output of a PDA?

Andrew

I've got an iPAQ 5450, running TomTom Navigator - I can hear the instructions OK in a quiet environment, but really struggle if driving on a motorway or if I have the radio on.

I bought a Brodit mount with built in speaker, and that amplifies the instructions very well. I can now drive along on the motorway will my music playing, and still here the TomTom instructions above the noise.

The Brodit mounts are expensive, but look good and work very well. People on here also recommend Arkon mounts, which are cheaper, but I don't think they look as compact. Whatever you choose, you should definately go for a mount with a built-in speaker.

Handy Mac - I use TT3 with an Ipaq 2210, I was going to get the Seidio mount which is amplified, however the supplier let me down and I am using the TomTom mount, which although not amplified still allows the Ipaq to achieve decent volume levels.

I agree with Brierls if you need extra volume look at either the Brodit or Seidio mounts to see if they can take your PPC.
