After installing the new map my 720 froze on the start up screen. Tried resets and ran clear flash several times to no avail.
As I'm away for a couple of days from tomorrow and will need a working device, I've reinstalled the back up I made before installing the new map, and will try to sort it out when I get back.

Presumably you have a back up you can reinstall if necessary too?

Well, I backed up both the devices I was updating - I've had a history of several failures on several devices cured by the simple method described by Anita. This forum has many examples of a backup curing problems. _________________ Dennis

No not forgotten at all...
and in this case having your old map saved somewhere "in the cloud" may not help.
We have heard of quite a few devices bricked on a failed update, but we have yet to hear of a single user managing to recover from a bricked device using this "Manage content" method.

Corrected the street I live on AGAIN (submitted EVERY 3 months to TeleAtlas/TT)
Added a few new roundabouts in between here and Loughborough..
The A1175 between the A1 and Stamford should be the A43, but it won't let me correct it (also submitted every 3 months!)

I probably won't be installing the v8.80 maps for a few days, could somebody tell me if the new maps have the new "hamburger roundabout" at Heyford Hill Road, Oxford near the Sainsbury's store:

There SHOULD be something in MyTomTom, it's called "Manage content" and it should let you store your old maps.
Doesn't help if the whole unit has bricked itself though!
No - you can't backup a 1005, "Manage Content" only deals with installation and removal of 3rd Party POIs, and as you say pointless if the device is sulking and refusing to communicate (a bit like a certain Russian Mars spacecraft)
The good news is that after one and a half days, 5 (yes five) separate downloads, a change of computer, fresh install of MyTomTom, different browser, followed by a reinstall of MyTomTom over the top of the fresh install after the download had completed and with the TT still connected, the TT finally responded and the map has been successfully transferred.
If the next two map updates give me this much grief, this time next year you will find me in the Garmin forum
