I agree
My initial timing was way too short but after a few weeks it started to pad the time out from the off.
I don't actually plot the route on mine but let the smart function cut in which seems to know where your going and how long it will take.
Well it does for 3 days out of 5 ! The other 2 days it just displays the road I'm on even though all I ever do with mine is home to work and vice versa.
Fuzzy logic? _________________ DashCam:

Spoilsport - just when the thread had been properly hi-jacked
And the OP had accepted that it did not matter as long as it was the same as his old unit.
Perhaps the topic should be given a new name! |

OK back on track .......
You could consider the Brodit mounts. I've got one that is designed to fit to a Brodit mount. It's got a smaller footprint than the suction mount and may be more suitable.
have a look at DslDevelopments for prices _________________ DashCam:

Brodit,
Thanks for the pointer. Snag is that they seem to need to be screwed/bolted to the car and mine is to go on a walnut wood dashboard.
Unless I misread the site, of course.

If your dash is a nice shiny smooth and polished surface will the suction cup not stick to it?
You could try one of thos stick on plates that come in the sat nav box, find a spot that's not too noticeable and put the ball joint there. |

"will the suction cup not stick to it? "
Yes, it will.
The reason why I started this thread is because the dashboard does not have many areas that are clear of instruments. The TomTom I had before I got the Nuvi 760 had a pad that was too large. The 760 fits fine - and as I am told it has the same pad as the 1490 that arrives at lunchtime I will be OK.
I even bought one of those ventilator clips but it would not fit any of them on our car - so I'm selling it on eBay with the 760.
EDIT. And, of course, the suction pad is fine. I was a bit surprised to find the 1490 did not have an aerial socket. I'd needed to buy one for the 760 as I mount the GPS quite low in the car and it struggled. On a quick test drive I had to wait a while for the 1490 to lock on to the satellites with the device on the top of the dashboard - but once working it stayed with the sats perfectly in the lower position until I was actually back inside my garage. So it must be much more sensitive than the old 760.

Do you mean GPS aerial? As far as I know the GTM25 which comes with the 1490 has a jack plug for the traffic aerial but there is no GPS aerial socket. I think that the newer units have a much better GPS performance than the old. I have an Asus-Garmin M10 smartphone and that is incredibly sensitive GPS wise. I frequently have a 10 satellite lock and it works anywhere in our house or in the motorhome or car. Much better than my 660.
Whoops - we have gone OT again!!! |

"Do you mean GPS aerial? "
Yes, I did.
I was also surprised last week when our old 760 was taking us to a pub how effective my handheld Samsung Galaxy S2 phone was mapping the journey. My wife was driving and I had the phone on my lap - in a car with a lot of metal around it.

Another option would be to use the new units mounting shoe attached to the old Garmin windscreen sucker part as the diameter of the ball will be the same, you know the old sucker fits the car so re-use that if need be - Mike |

Thanks Mike,
But the two suckers are the same.
That was what emerged in the early parts of this thread.

Sorry, that was a bit tongue in cheek in reply to M8TJT's comment
Wasn't meant to be taken literally, mine is actually just over 5 cms too ... same as yours |

Hullo Wilton,
Stick on pads?
The holdersandmounts site shows suction pads.
Or are you talking about another msg?
