im not so sure its easily addressable - I think its the way POI Loader manipulates the icon files. They would have to program it to run differently for the 37xx series (and what ever other series is screwed).
Alternatively they could give the user the option to set the size of the icon on conversion - but how likely is that ?? It would certainly give them some credibility. |

Real world usability seems to have taken a big step backwards in the latest ranges of Garmins in pursuit of more half-baked 'box-ticking' features. |

Well TT are having to slash costs to keep solvent. If Garmin can understand the concept of user configuration, they may well become more successful.
Most recent response:
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
All icons are the same size there is not an option to change the size of the POI icon. You must be zoomed in to see the POI's as this is a device design. The faster you are driving the more zoomed out the map will be and vice versa. The device automatically zooms in and out as you speed up and slow down. This applies to all our devices and can't be changed.
I am sorry if this has caused any inconvenience.
If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.

The Support Agent is unable to understand that I am referring to Custom POIs and using Proximity Alerts. If the Proximity alerts used a slightly bigger icon then the problem would be partially resolved.
I have just taken possession of a NUVI 1490t to play with. Initial inspection reveals that the icons are slightly bigger than the road width, which is better than the 3760. Ill have to take some pics. |

Comparison between 3760 and 1490. Note the relative size of the icons to the size of the road etc, both on the same zoom at 200ft :

I can totally understand the rationale for making POI icons so small and only visible at 200ft for stuff like shops and gas stations, but for Custom POIs which are alertable it is quite ridiculous to have them the same size.
Even if only the Proximity Alert display was bigger that would help. |

and here's that Chrisp St shot as a screenshot from the 1490 - note that this is a smaller pic so the icons look smaller than they are. Check the icons size against the width of the road:

It does look like a resolution issue which on the face of it is understandable.
I assume that your Garmin unit still only accepts a .BMP of 22x22, or smaller, so doubling the size has no effect or stops it uploading/displaying altogether? _________________ DashCam:

Ive used the 22 and the 24, they upload but i reckon they are resized by the POI Loader.
Yes it is a resolution issue, but this shows that the designers have not considered the consequences of their design!
In any case the reasons for having small icons (so as not to clutter the screen) do not apply to proximity alert icons imo. |

Latest reply back to Mr Garmin:
Dear Garmin Europe
You have not grasped the concept of my query. If I am using Proximity Alerts for Custom POIs, the icon shows whatever the zoom level for the purposes of the alert. This icon is small and hard to see on the screen without diverting attention from the road for longer than would be required if the icon was more visible.
Using 3D view the icon is lightly more easier to see than using 2D. I prefer to use 2D view while driving.
This link shows a screenshot comparing the 1490 and the 3760, which clearly shows that the relative size of the Custom POI icons to the map data is smaller on the 3760. This fault is caused by the screen resolution on the 3760, and the icon size not being compensated for this resolution change.
So, my request is that you acknowledge that the icons are too small and that you provide an indication of when this issue will be resolved.
Also I find it un-necessarily restrictive to not be able to see my Custom POI icons at any zoom level out up to 0.8miles zoom. Please can you explain why you have restricted the usefulness of your product in this way.

And the very quick reply, while possibly encouraging but also meaningless, is:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I'd be happy to assist you with this. I will put in a suggestion for engineering to make those icons bigger. I can not guarantee that it is something that will be changed, and I would not be able to give a timetable of when it will be changed if it is.
If you need further assistance, you can respond to this email or call us at 1800-800-1020.
With Best Regards,
