|
|
TomTom have updated their iOS Navigation App to v1.9.
This update adds iOS5 support along with a new map, some UI changes including a one-click return to Map View button and full iPad support. Customers will also get a free map update with the new map.
The addition of iPad support is also a nice touch and has been well implemented to take advantage of the larger screen. Pop-up menus and split screen views are used to great effect.
iPhone 3G owners should note that this is the last fully supported update. The next version will have features that are not available to iPhone 3G users.
The update is available free to existing users via the iTunes App Store here.

Thanks for the link.
Just have one more question that someone might help me with.
I have instalkled many POIs to the ipad such as supermarkets, camp sites etc and it is working ok apart from that they show up on the map as just a red blob and not the POI icon.
The POI icons show up ok when using the navigate to POI screen. I have uploaded the POIs as .png and also the OV2 file. |

You need to make sure the png icon files are 24 bit, quite easy to do with a PC:
Open the standard bmp icon using Paint, use the "Save As" option and make sure you select 24 Bit BMP, then use the "Save As" again but this time choose png as the format.
Send the modified png icon to the iPAD and it should be visible by the app when its running - Mike |

Updated the iPhone 4 running iOS 5 to V 1.9...
The process deleted all the POI files and custom sounds, OV2, PNG and OGG, strangely, it left my mapsettings.cfg file alone!
Anyone know which version of the postcode file the 1.9 app runs?
Just updating an old XL Live unit and updated the postcode files on that, got me thinking about what version is used by the app? |

875, you can use DiskAid to copy the .ver file out of the zip folder to the PC then open it with NotePad to read the information - Mike |

Thanks Mike, is 875 still the latest version?
I seem to remember having a link to download the latest version for my old GO 740, but can't find it. |

875 Postcodes are to be used with V875 mapping, as 875 maps are currently the latest you can rest assured the Postcode data loaded to the app are the most recent released - Mike |

Seems like for once TomTom have got something right!
I remember with the GO 740 you had to manually update the postcode file because an updated map didn't update the postcodes. |

Oh Dear - First impressions on a iPad 1 +3G are lousy,
Has always run like a dream on my iPhone, so was reallyl ooking forward to the iPad version, its so SLOWWWWW, like wading hrough treacle,
Takes an age to respond to key presses, and is almost unuasable
Not sure if this is just an iPad 1 thing, and its been optomised for the faster iPad 2, but at the moment its a NO GO on the iPad 1 |
