TomTom has launched a Top Gear version their TomTom GO LIVE.
It brings together a combination of the BBC's motoring series presenter Jeremy Clarkson giving directions, selected points of interest (POIs) that include Top Gear related track and raceway locations and Top Gear branding.
It also has a Stig mode. For those unfamiliar with the programme, Stig never utters a single word, so basically when Stig mode is chosen, the device instantly falls silent.
Many have said that they would like to shut Jeremy Clarkson up, some say that Stig has always been the man to do it!
The Top Gear edition, priced at £179.99, combines all the usual features of the TomTom GO LIVE with Top Gear branded start-up and shut-down screens and car icons. It also includes one year of TomTom's LIVE Services for free and, according to TomTom, features richer, more detailed maps. _________________ Robert Brady |

I thought that Jeremy Clarkson hated SatNavs. Amazing how people change their minds when money is involved!
I'm looking forward to Clarkson promoting a range of new caravans.

If you are able, I'd suggest editing that post to nothing. _________________ Dennis

Why? Driving a truck really is a hard job and I'm not just saying that to gain favour with truck drivers.

Sorry Kar98... it maybe an accurate quote of what Clarkson said, but that doesn't have to mean we as a forum or website want to repeat it.
So on reflection, I'll edit the posts. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Oh dear, in what can only be described as a 'monumental cock-up', BBC Worldwide has been forced to ditch the agreement with TomTom despite 54,000 units already having been shipped to retailers.
It appears that the deal fell foul of BBC policy that Top Gear must not endorse car-related products. Due to some misunderstanding, BBC Worldwide gave the green light to TomTom to ship the devices before the agreement had been finalised.
It's all rather bizarre given that BBC Worldwide seem happy to endorse any number of other products and an endless stream of Clarkson's DVDs. Perhaps they should invest some of their considerable resources to raise the quality of the programme rather than issue stupid edicts such as this. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Whoops!
That's going to cost somebody a lot of money! I just hope that it's not the part of the BBC that gets our television licensing fees!
To save TomTom the cost of collecting and destroying these special Go Live units - any chance that TomTom would allow PGPSW subscribers to help them by allowing PGPSW subscribers to collect the units from the retailers and paying a very nominal fee? PGPSW subscribers could then remove the "Stig" voice to make them usable units?

The units that have shipped will still be sold. And if anyone wants the STIG custom Icon. I have it here:
