|
|
We've recently taken the plunge and upgraded to TTN3.03. We mostly like what we see very much, but we were disconcerted to find that the voice has changed. She seems to be slightly less clear and more languid.
Is it possible to get the TTN2 voice files back? If we can find the wav files can we simply copy them into the appropriate directory on the pocket PC? If so, the question is where can we find the TTN2 files?
Curiously, the voices directory on the TTN3 installation disc seems to have a demo file (called eng.wav) for the old voice but there are no accompanying inf or cab files.
What would happen if we used our TTN2 disc to install its voices without reinstalling any program files? Has anyone tried this? |

go ahead and change the voice files. Either by copying the wav files over or by reinstalling the appropriate CAB file. Don't delete the existing files though (only overwrite them) - the version 3 voice files may have some additional commands compared to the v2 files, and TomTom is verifying the number of voice files present when it starts _________________ Lutz

Thanks for your advice Lutz.
I re-ran the setup program from the TTN2 CD and chose the change voice option, and we now have "Ina" (Thomasina) back. She may sound rather severe and schoolmistressy, but we're used to her by now!
I wasn't quite sure what you meant by reinstalling the CAB file. I tried extracting the contents of the CAB file but the result was a load of files of unkown filetype ... not the WAV files I had hoped for. I then tried "running" the INI file but that simply loaded it into Notepad. Is there an easier way than re-running the setup program in the root folder of the CD?
Thanks again.

Yes. you can copy the CAB file to the Pocket PC and then run it from the pocket file explorer. This will also do the installation, and if all goes well the CAB file is deleted after the installation is finished. _________________ Lutz

Surely I'm missing something? engf and engm are the TT3 voice files. The TT2 voice files aren't on the CD. |

oh, I see. I thought you had the v2 CDs as well. Anyhow, browse the web, plenty of voices available. _________________ Lutz

There should be a file available from TT's site at least that was where I obtained it from. The file is:-
TTN_GB_JANE.ZIP
Contains all the files, BMP, and the install files. _________________ Graham.
