Hi,
My father in law was after a cheap reasonable sat nav and after reading a review on trusted reviews I said he should get one of these as it was pretty cheap yet a 5" model yet it still got a good review.
The in built speed camera database trial has now run out and I said rather than paying for some out of date corporate speed camera database he should try this one. However I've looked around the compatibility list and I cant see this model on it.
Is it know under a different model number or dont Pocket GPS World support it?
If it is possible can some body post a guide or link the correct instructions.
Cheers

The PGPSW camera data bases are just collections of POIs, so if your model supports loading "custom" or "third-party" POI files it will be able to show the camera locations on screen. And if it has any "Warn when near a POI" capability, you will be able to get audible warnings for then too.
I don't know the MIO brand at all personally, but I found the on-line manual for the SPIRIT range (including the 685) here:
http://eu.mio.com/images/faq-images/Phoenix/Phoenix_Series_UM_EN_R01.pdf
On page 89-90 of the pdf file (or printed page number 71-72), it gives the instructions for loading custom POI files, and it says you need files in "csv" format. SO you CAN add the speed cam database.
I would suggest you try the "csv other" download option first (you choose that in the "SatNav system" box on the camera download page).
Older Navman and Mio models seem to have used "asc" format which is very similar, but might not be QUITE right.
The manual also says you can choose warning sounds or load your own sounds in .wav format, so you will also be able to download those from here and have SPOKEN warnings too.
Unfortunately, the new download system doesn't yet offer the wav files when you select OTHER-CSV, so you'll have to do a separate download of one of the other formats (such as Garmin-CSV") just to get the voice warnings.
In fact... the Garmin-CSV version of the databse itself might work fine on your Mio as well!
Sorry that's a bit more complicated than it should be. I'll have a word with the website guru and see if he can make it easier. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Hi,
Yes the Spirit range is compatible with our database.
You can use either "Navman / Mio (CSV)" or "Navman / Mio (ASC)" (just added these new options!) depending on whether your desktop software asks for ASC files or CSV files (Mio / Navman keep changing their mind as to what file type they want to use...)

And the .wav audio warning files are available in those download choices too. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
