Nuvi 765t/Windows XP sp3/POILoader-261
Should the Loader name the file poi.gpi each time and overwrite any existing file? I have named my unzipped downloads to reflect the date version and I think it is using this detail and making an accumulative upload to the Garmin - not overwriting the previous details. Noticed this when I experimented changing the voice warnings but seemed to be also playing the original I had tried.
When I checked the removable disk Garmin/POI I saw a poi.gpi and several entries with my customized file names - the unit, likewise, seems to have the same camera locations repeated several times.
I am a bit new to this, have only updated four or five times and have been unable to see if there is a naming protocol that should be used. Appreciate any help you can give. Do I simply delete all but the latest upload from the Garmin: is there any way, when viewing Custom POI on the Garmin, to establish the version being used?

Earlier versions used to ... but this behaviour was changed. There is now a dialogue that says "Choose a name for the newly created custom POI file:". I believe the .gpi file name now defaults to the folder name containing the source files.

You probably don't want multiple versions of the file that all define alerts at the same points - at the very least, you're giving the unit a lot of extra work to do. The .csv dataset obtained from PocketGPSWorld is the complete database, and so should just replace what's already on the nüvi.
The easiest way to do this, is to pick the same custom POI file name every time (eg SafetyCameras), so that it gets automatically overwritten.

No, it's a nuisance, isn't it? (I use a batch file to process the incoming .csv files and one of the things it does, is add an extra POI to the dataset that describes the contents.)

Thanks a lot for that, Phil. It's a great help for a novice. It was slowly dawning on me that the process was not quite what I had originally figured. In future I will keep the same file name and erase all previous downloads before unzipping the latest SpeedCamera.
