my dad has just got an ipaq 1930 with the infra red mount and a haicom 204e receiver
he lives away from me so i cant go and try to sort prob myeslf.
he has connected the haicom 204e to car power (and put it on car roof for now) but the led flashes all the time and wont stay on steady to indicate sat fix.
should it be able to get sat fix without being connected to pda while being powered ?
he cant connect pda atm as he is waiting for s/w
it also says in manual you may need to press reset button on haicom but he cant find one
any help please

I've just set my father up with something simlar - except using the mount to power and connect to the 204 e and an ipaq 3850.

I maybe wrong but I think it just needs power to lock on - he keeps the mount and therefore the 204e powered all the time in the car and when plugging in the ipaq and launching tomtom gets an immediate fix (ie 1 second and 6-8 sats) - so I think the gps is working regardless of having the ipaq attached - why not try the utility program on the haicom cd?.

I hadn't even noticed a light on the gps unit - I'll see him tomoorw and see if its lit when the ipaq is diconnected and post another reply then.

HTH
