There has been a new 5 miles of motorway added on to the M74 in Glasgow. My question is as this is such a major road i cannot find how to report it on my XL Live to TomTom. If i E-mailed TT directly with the information(would think they should all ready know about it)do you think it will be in the map updates any sooner that they usually take to add roads.... _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

The real irony here is that the new stretch of motorway is already on the 870 maps However, it will not (yet) allow you to navigate using it
I drove along the new stretch the other day, in both directions. The map recognised I was on the M74, but kept telling me every so often to 'turn around when possible' (not very sensible....) and knew about all the exit slips.
Hopefully, all they will have to do is 'activate' the on and off ramps for it to work - but we are dealing with Tomtom
The new section of the A730 at Shawfield appeard on the 845 map before it was even open and then disappeared from subsequent maps... Let's hope that the same doesn't happen with the M74 extension.
Another interesting fact is that neither of these roads have yet appeared on the Tomtom route planner or Google maps. One wonders how accurate the HD traffic info can be in the area as a result. _________________ GO 750 Live HD Traffic, Map Europe 930, Navcore 9.510 |

Tomtom added the new piece of road in relation to a conversation I had with them about 6 months to a year ago, but it is blocked on v8.70 map data as it has just recently opened.
I have since had a conversation with Tomtom about the fact that it has opened fully now, and I have been told that it will be 'opened' on the map from v8.75.
Meanwhile, if you use that new bit of the Motorway, you can always use MapShare to unblock it all. Takes a while, ( I have unblocked it on my units), but it will be usable if unblocked!

It's quite easy if you are confident about using MapShare! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

This Mapshare function will only work if your device supports it. Thanks TomTom!!
Edit :
Not so much device but the MyTomTom software. I can activate Mapshare within my GO 1000 but it just doesn't know what to do and where to do it! |

Yes the MyTomtom software is currently not great, but you can still unblock the M74 extension and allow the Tomtom to route along the whole new section of road!

Thanks for that. If it's needed how do I go about 'unlocking' these sections of map please? Is there a howto section? If not I'll Google my fingers sore and find out.
Despite my gripes with this device (sorry MyTomTom software) I continue to believe I've done the right thing in buying one.
I have subscribed to the £20 offer from TT for the map update scheme. TBH, very good value. If TT are right about the section being opened in 875 map version I'll just wait. No immediate plans to drive to Glasgow.
Thanks again mate. |

There are three parts to Mapshare...
1. making your own corrections on your own map
2. choosing whether or not to share them with everyone else, and
3. downloading corrections that other people have made.
It's only #2+3 that aren't working on the new models and MyTomTom, you can still make your own corrections, such as unblocking this road.
To do so, you need to go to "Map corrections", on a Go1000 this is in the Live Services menu.
Select "Correct a map error" followed by "(Un)block street" and just follow the instructions.
You do need to be VERY careful that you have selected all the correct road "segments" to change, so if you are not absolutely sure you have it correct then don't choose to share the correction with others. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I should have checked that the M74 Extension was already added (My Bad). I thought as it was such a major road it would maybe have got a bit more priority that others. I am surprised it was added even before it was finished as you hear of people waiting on roads being added in their area a year or so later.. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)
