|
|
so.... my Q is
which TOMTOM can I buy now from a shop or amazon has the latest and best processor, Navcore and map that I can put my PGPSW speedcameradatabase on ?
would be handy of I can back up the internal Memory.
I do sometimes have a mess around with other navcores and maps to see which one best suits my needs.
I understand that SD card is now defunct in newer models.
I used to use a 8gb SD card on a 5 year old one v1.
changed the firmware and navcore and it worked a treat, but its gota go back to the company now.
and I need to buy one for myself for new company.
I am also understanding the newer ones have a worse screen ? reflective and not very freindly to nail touching.. the 1000 and 1005
have heard the 750 is the one to go for ?
does this have an internal sim for Live, which is something maybe my new company would pay for.
I will be driving length and breadth of UK/Scotland and wales, in a car ( nice new insignia sri 2.0 160
thanks in anticipation :0) |

If you want to "play" loading odd ball Navcore to your device then the 750 Live is probably the best bet, coupled with a 4GB Micro SD card you won't go far wrong.
The newer devices are locked down to prevent the user from loading anything that TomTom don't want them to - Mike |

thanks Mike, are all 750 the same
ie: no version 1, 2,3 etc ?
just a 750 live XL or something is it ?
can get one on Amazon for £155
is that a good price?
anywhere else i can get them?
and does it have its own internal memory as well?
Im guessing if you put in a SD card it works off that and ignores the internal ?
Thx |

Device name is Go-750 Live
It can use both the built in memory and the MicroSD card at the same time, the reason for the 4GB MicroSD card is so you can keep the full Western_Europe map rather than have to put up with a zonal region when you use the Latest Map Gaurantee (LMG). The internal memory has inadequate capacity to store the latest versions of the map hence the requirement for the card.
As long as the item on Amazon is new you have nothing to lose with a price of £155 as it will come with LMG but make sure you have the MicroSD card before you use the LMG to update the map - Mike |

There is a sim card installed for HD Traffic, which I believe is Vodafone, but don't hold me to it. |

The 750 does indeed have a Vodafone sim buried deep inside for the traffic etc so no need to have a phone connected for the data connection.
I am pretty sure you can use all the old voices. |

thanks all for the sim info.
how does it charge for the downloaded data?
is that what the £56 a year subscription pays for
or do I pay for data downloaded too? |

Your subscription payment is all thats needed as it covers access to the data and the data download costs, better still it works in all countries that support Live services at no additional cost (unlike mobile phones which cost a fortune when roaming overseas) - Mike |

excellent, looks like the one to go for.
looking forward to the wider screen, been using a one v1 for the last 5 years.
had to put on a different Navcore on to get maps to work, as it slowed down so much.
but was working great and fast with ver 8 maps
thanks for the help people.
