Yes, but when they show empty, like you, I just carry on until I can see no more ink in the cart, or it realy runs out, then fit a new one with the reset chip so that I get a good idea of when they have run low again:grin: .
I used to have a HP all in one - scanner, printer, fax, etc purchased sometime in 2003 for light home use.
Worked perfectly till I got a message "Print head out of date" - which on that model were seperate from the cartridges.
So though I had enough ink, I would have to replace the print heads because they had reached some internal pre-specified date. The cost wasn't worth it.
So a perfectly good printer (in all other respects) had to be binned - well it spent some time in the garage till the wife decided I wouldn't notice that it had been sent to the scrapyard.
I believe that there was a court case brought in the US against HP regarding cartridges stopping as "Out of Date" even though they were new. Didn't hear what the result was.

I agree, average under 300 pages a month, 10 pages a day, is not my idea of "Heavy use" - what do you get for 10 pages? - five letters in duplicate (top and file) or invoices or a mix. Mine did have copy limits on the drum and I think it would have needed replacement/s during that usage. But I'm no expert. I seem to remember once upon a time seeing things like descriptions of usage in sales blurbs, I don't know if they still do that.
However, I'm sure it would be worth putting the opinion to HP (if you can find an HP address where it would get to a human being). _________________ Dennis
