|
|
I recently changed my phone from a windows mobile 6.5 to a windows 7 model, effectively making my TomTom software redundant.
To that end I wish to use the software on our Wince 5 gps in dash kit.
So far I have put the software and the map onto an SD card in order to find my device code so I can ring Tomtom and get them to switch my licence over.
Here's the problem. The software boots up fine in the car, but won't locate the map. Obviousy I am aware it won't work right off the bat, I will have to get Tomtom to give me an activation code, but I can't do that without a device code.
I had no majot problems switching from one device to another on pocket PC in the past, it found the map, told me it wasn't valid, allowed me to get the device code and ring tomtom. Emailed off the purchase gubbins to tomtom and bobs yer uncle.
I can't work out why the software wont see the map. Perhaps I have structured it on the SD card wrong? One thing that I thought was odd, was it didn't install the software per se on the car stereo. It just seemed to boot it? Maybe it needs some Dll files to drive it?
Any help would be great. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar

the device code is recorded in the tomtomnavigator.cfg file, even is the map loading fails.
Do you get any kind of error message? _________________ Lutz

Will it record that on the SD card? I didn't think it would.
No errors, just says no map found.
As a test I have also shoved this map into the TomTom one PNA we have and that won't find it either. I am now guessing this map is only compatible with Windows Mobile and not WinCe 5 as I previously thought.
Ah well, looks like it isn't happening. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar

You are not going to be able to do it using official means I would say.
In the un-official world it is generally accepted that a device that runs windows ce and has an SD card slot will run TomTom.
But this is also the reason TomTom have pretty much dropped that sector all together. _________________ Samsung S22 Android, Google Maps & Camera Alert |

Yup, I've had genuine TomTom's since 2005. Our Car has a sat nav on it. I just preferred tomtom as all my favourites and POI's are there, plus the voices I have grown accustomed to.
It's a shame really as the licence is going to be obsolete now for that map. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar

I know, I started with TomTom 3 on an iPaq PDA and upgraded this through the years to TomTom 6. I then managed to transfer this to a Windows mobile (TyTN II wm6) but when I got a nicer WM 6.5 it would not run due to VGA differences on the phone so in the end I sold it with the phone as it was a licenced version.
Might get you a little more if you are selling the wm 6.5 on? _________________ Samsung S22 Android, Google Maps & Camera Alert |

NO I haven't looked as it's not recognising the map, so there's no point asking TomTom for an activation code.
How is it an error to not see the map? _________________ o2 XDA Stellar

you would need the Device ID to request the new map license.
The "No maps found" message means that your application seems to be installed correctly, but that the license key (the .dct file) doesn't match the device ID. As such the message is useful for troubleshooting.
I don't know if TomTom still issue licenses for Windows Mobile/CE devices. Short of looking at the grey/gray area (which we don't advise you do) you'll be out of luck. _________________ Lutz

When I updated to a new device. It saw the map but wouldn't activate it. I then got the device code and phoned TomTom for a new license. I don't see how this is different? I will look tomorrow and find the device code on the SD card and give TomTom a call. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar

As you have had the card in the car deck it should have written the new device ID in to the ttnavigator.bif file which you will find in the root of the memory card when viewed using Windows Explorer on the PC.
Right click the ttnavigator.bif file and select "OpenWith/ NotePad"
Device ID is on the fifth line down, your Product Code will have been supplied with the software, it should be on a plastic card, enter both these codes in to the web site www.ttcode.com to get the activation code or give TomTom CS a ring on 0845 161 0009 if the above doesn't work.
Last time I tried TomTom on my double DIN GPS equipped car deck the sounds wouldn't work correctly so best of luck with it - Mike |

I would try putting the codes in to the web site and see if that works as it might save a phone call - Mike |

As I've had it installed on other devices I was under the impression the TTCode site won't work? Have things changed? Last time I sat in the queue from 8am calling tomtom trying to get them to sort it. Then after faxing them a copy of my delivery note for my device they emailed me a new code. If I remember correctly a Tomtom employee who was browsing this forum took up the case for me one one occasion and had it sorted for me.
On a side note I have been using the SYGIC that came preinstalled in the car deck and the timings are wildly out. _________________ o2 XDA Stellar
