I am sure many people rely on the POIs for finding a supermarket but the data held for at least two companies is currently so out of date it is useless in some areas.
Waitrose file still shows Durham but it closed two years ago and shifted to Newcastle
Waitrose in York has been open now for many months but is totally missing.
Tesco branches in Norfolk are several years out of date.
I am sure both these companies would be concerned about this situation and will issue you up to date info |

The POIs are user contributed. They are offered as a free service but they rely on users to add new locations, submit errors reports or removal requests.
If you know that one is incorrect, submit a correction and we'll amend it. If one has gone, tell us via the submission form.
That's how it works. You get the data free, we do all the admin of maintaining the database and delivering it in a format suitable for your nav.
All we ask in return is a little input from those of you who use them.
Over to you. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi gzkbbx
I think that a lot of the POI's are submitted by people who have made up them up themselves and arent submitted by a company or companies as such ( i may be wrong), in light of this it is true that some of them may be out of date and innacurate.
If you find an innaccuracy why not correct it and the reupload it on this page here
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=POIs&ShowSubmit
You could of course hang on until you have made a few corrections or just upload the ones you know about. _________________ Call Me N3wt for short.....

Yes and no
More often than not, large company POI sets are compiled from PostCode data and can be very inaccurate. Most of our user submitted POIs are submitted based on local knowledge and real locations. This makes them much more accurate than those created automatically from an address.
But we do rely on users correcting errors. If everyone corrected a few ion their local area every once in a while we'd have no issues, but as with everything, we have a small number of hard working contributors and a large number of people who use the data but never contribute to it.
That's life. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I knew i may have been wrong on that point Darren..
I have a few corrections to a couple of the POI's i need to upload when i get the chance.
Pity you cant edit the stupid built in ones on a TomTom they are woefully out of date and TT dont seem to have a way to do it. _________________ Call Me N3wt for short.....

Yes you can!
Assuming you've opted into MapShare, it's in: Map corrections / Correct an error / forward arrow / Edit POI (or Add Missing POI).
This method ONLY works for the built-in POIs. (To edit a user-POI you need to use 'Manage POIs' to add a new position and then delete the old one).
You can also receive corrections from others via MapShare, but you need to tell it which categories you want to get corrections for.
You do that in Home. Connect the device and log in. Then go to Tools / TT MapShare / Mapshare preferences / Select POIs Categories tab. (the list takes a while to load)
All the above assumes we are talking about pre Go1000/Via models i.e. ones that use TomTom Home. The new 'MyTomTom' system cannot do it yet. |

I update pois as I come across them, but I suspect that like a lot of other people, I usually only check those i am interested in.
For example, there could be 700 new McDonalds in my town, but I wouldn't notice them or submit them as a poi. Likewise that sandwich shop, whos name I can't even think of now, but apparently they do long bread roll type sandwiches.
o, the data base is going to depend on what individuals 'fancy' or have interests in - sports clubs, rugby clubs etc .
Just my thoughts on the subject. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

IF everybody had time and POIs were as high a priority to us all as they seem to be for you, you're possibly right.
However, if that were the case, I'm sure the POIs would be almost as up to date as the camera database. _________________ Andy

For those who don't already know it, I have a built in satnav in my van, TomTom Carminat in a Renault Kangoo van. So one of the TT POI sets is Renault thingies, as useful a POI as I can imagine as a Renault owner.
My dealership where I bought the van and have it serviced, is included. But the icon coordinates are a long way off and if I were to use it to Navigate to, I would probably never get there, because it goes into a nearby cul-de-sac which is buried well inside the wrong side of the railway! Not a problem for me as I have it set as a POI of my own. But pity some poor soul with a sick vehicle cruising round for the local Renault shop!
Be assured that all the public toilets in Keynsham are correctly located. _________________ Dennis
