Not as it stands as the Via units use the "MyTomTom" interface for connecting to the PC.
TomTom have said they will be adding a third party POI option to the PC based interface at some future point, but what this will comprise of isn't known as yet - Mike |

The problems are mainly down to the "MyTomTom" web-based way to update the new models rather then the lack of an SD card specifically.
You should still be entitled to the "Latest Map Guarantee".
TomTom have JUST got this working on the new system, and new maps have been sent to Go1000 owners (the 1000 works in the new way too), so if your map is earlier than v860 you should be offered the new version now or quite soon.
Ability to add POI files has been promised for sometime in the next few months, but we have yet to see how fully it is implemented.
If you want to send it back and get an older model, the Gox40 range is still the best featured, but probably very hard to find now. The x50 range is identical hardware, but the software has some of the "extras" such as the music player stripped out. |

Hi from Oz, friend just brought a new VIA160 for her hubby for xmas on my recommendation, I set it up for her, it appears the only interface by online browser, it did the check and said all up to date.
Read some fine print on TomTom site, it said to look for TomTom USB drive in explorer but nothing found, i loaded TomTom home but that cannot find device.
Therefore at this stage, no chance to load voices or POI's or even backup device to PC, anyone any experience or knowledge with these VIA devices?
Happy Christmas from Australia, Rgds Mike _________________ Tomtom Rider 500 EU, VW Discover Pro (UK/EU), VW Discover Pro MIB2 (Aus), Audi MMI (Aus), CamerAlert for Android |

Both the Via and Go-1x devices require the use of the web browser style "MyTomTom" This interface is rather limited in what it can do, currently you cannot add voices, POI files etc some of these features should be available next year though.
You cannot see the device using TomTom Home_2 or Windows Explorer as the file system is hidden - Mike |

That advice applies to older models, it does not apply to the GO 100x or Via models.
These do not use Mass Storage and so cannot be accessed in the same way. Your only interface is MyTomTom and, as yet, there is no support for the installation of other voices, POIs or any user backup. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi again, I called TomTom Australia on Thursday 30th, they advised a upgrade fix is planned for release sometime January to enable these units to be synchronised thro TT Home. I checked the map on the VIA160 and it is not the latest map also (TT guy confirmed it) so hopefully they get their finger out and catch up with the software.
Happy new year TT users _________________ Tomtom Rider 500 EU, VW Discover Pro (UK/EU), VW Discover Pro MIB2 (Aus), Audi MMI (Aus), CamerAlert for Android |

As we have reported previously, TomTom have said sometime in Q1 2011 for the update rather than January. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Guru's
Any news yet on the VIA160 interface and map updates thro TomTom Home? |
Hi Darren and Guys n Gals
I am happy to report that POI's can now be loaded into the VIA160 model thro Internet Explorer interface. (unfortunately i cannot upload a picture of this event).
When the Via160 is connected thro IE to TomTom, some auto-update did happen (but not the latest map - Was informed by TomTom via phone that update still coming) then from the TomTom Icon at right bottom of page a little menu poppes up with "my tomtom", "add shared POI", "settings" and "close".... therefore i activated the "add shared POI" and another window opens in IE titled "Add POI set to device", you can then search your PC or USB etc for POI files to upload to your VIA160.
Hope this helps
B.Rgds
Mike
