Does anyone know where the equivalent to mapsettings.cfg is on a Carminat Tomtom? It was quite an arduous process setting up all those warnings...
For that matter, is there any way of editing POI warnings other than in the car, live? |

Does your Carminat have an SD card thats removable from the top right side of the screen? If so pop it in to a card reader connected to the PC and use Windows Explorer to views the files and folders on the card - Mike |

For Carminat the mapsetting.cfg is not immediately visible as a single file. If you try to simply exploring the SD card you will never find it
The mapsettings.cfg file (together with other settings files) is inside a file called either ext3_loopback or loopback.ex3 (for newer versions). This is an image file (Loopback Device file system image) that can be opened and modified in a PC only if you first add ext2/ext3 support and then mount the image as an external drive.
Using Linux (ext2/ext3 are linux file system so they are supported by default) you need only to mount the image as an external drive. |

Interesting!
Would you be prepared to write that up in more detail as a tutorial? Maybe with a few screen grabs?
My first questions, not having seen it in action are:
Once you've opened the image, is MapSettings.cfg there in all its glory?
Would it be possible to edit it and re-encode the image or is that ext2/ext3 support read-only? |

Yes once you open the image file, mapsettings.cfg is just a normal file and so are the other files contained in the image.
In fact the ext3_loopback (loopback.ex3) image file contains, besides the mapsettings.cfg file, also all the other usual "settings" files, like ttgo.bif, CurrentMap.dat, MapUserPatch.dat, etc. etc.
The image file is located in the /loopdir/ folder
Using Windows, just to read the files, you can use explore2fs, a little freeware program:
http://www.chrysocome.net/explore2fs
In order to have read/write capabilities, you must add ext2/ext3 support in windows... and it becomes more tricky.
BTW the procedure is the same as if you want to read a linux partition you may have in your hard drive.
One way to do it is to use fs-driver
http://www.fs-driver.org/
and then mount the image using one of the (free) drivers avalilable here:
http://branten.se/nt/
The FileDisk-17 driver works perfectly.
If you use Linux it's all more straightforward as you just need to mount the image file (using the command mount) |

Thank you!
It's no use to me personally, but I'll bookmark it and hope to pass it on to any Carminat owners whocome looking for the info (Dennis?). |
