I have an Ipaq 3950 with a navman 3450 sleeve running TomTom 3. My Ipaq has been upgraded to windows mobile 2003 v3.
I have succesfully uploaded the Speedcam database from Pocket GPS but every time I install the latest version of checkPOInt the program does nothing. All I get is an icon on my pda that does nothing when you try to run the prohram. I have uninstalled it twice and re-installed it twice but to no avail.
I hope someone can tell my the solution to this problem.
TIA

I've just installed Checkpoint for the first time - no problems.
I did need to find the program file with explorer on ppc and run it first from there. It did not fire up until I had ticked the Agree notice on first running. |

I think I was a bit hasty in replying above.
It installed ok - but I can't get it to work.
I get the E-mail address and POIplace security code prompt.
I've read the POIsync FAQ about problems like this but I am still very confused.
I have TT3 on iPAG1940.
The FAQ mentions explorer options so I presume this is options on my Desktop - not the ppc.
The pc is on a LAN which is connected via a D-Link router/firewall. Is this likely to have port 53 blocked by default?
Can I not enter code and get sync'ed. |

BaldlyGo - first check that with your PPC in the cradle and connected to your PC that it can access the Internet - go to Internet Explorer and access a website. If this works, then CheckPOInt should work.
If it does work, we'll need more details of what you are doing, and what the application is doing in response, plus details of things like the version of CheckPOInt itself. |

Thanks swing -
Explorer brings up web sites ok.
I have just this morning downloaded and installed CheckPOInt 3.2.0.0.
The Icon appears at the bottom of the screen but with a red "!".
When I tap it I get options up but the Synchronize option is greyed.
When I tap Synchronization Setting I get this prompt for email address and POIplace security code and a Validate button. |

If not, head off to http://poiplace.oabsoftware.nl/ and register! |

Aahhh - register - what a good idea
Now have my code - gets further but now says can't connect to POIplace website.
Perhaps I'm back to firewall problem? |

Baldlygo wrote: | Perhaps I'm back to firewall problem? | Perhaps - I find it can be a little temperamental at times. Certainly when I first installed it, I got that a lot of times, and often had to remove the PPC *and* wait a few hours before it would work again once it had failed (I assume the app knows the previous error and simply reports it again without trying). Give it a while and try again. Sorry I can't help much more - I've got both a router and a firewall in the way and had no problems. If you have a firewall on the PC itself, that might be interferring though. |

I can reach the poiplace home page if I type it in on the ppc explorer.
I will try connecting direct via dialup later, that should prove if its firewall or not. |

Jim - I think I am in the same boat as you now.
I've reinstalled but still can't get it to connect to the web site to sync.
With a dialup connection and Zonealarm shutdown I still get the same error message as before.- CheckPOInt could not connect to the POIplace website.
I also checked that I was surfing ok with explorer.
Can anyone tell me if this is the same message I would get if my security code was incorrect? |

Tried again this morning and failed exactly the same again.
Explorer connects ok but CheckPOInt fails to reach website.
So I am completely stumped with POI alerts

Baldlygo wrote: | and Zonealarm shutdown | Unfortunately if you shutdown the system tray part of Zonealarm it still leaves the underlying controlling component in place and active.
The only way of ensuring ZA is not at fault is to fully uninstall the application and try again - obviously you need to be aware of the risks of doing this. However, I can't see CheckPOInt using anything above the PPC Explorer web link, and hence I don't see how ZA can be interefering with it, especially as you can get to the website via IE.
I don't think I can help further - has anyone else around here had a similar problem and can suggest anything?? |

Thanks again swing.
I connected via my bluetooth and mobile modem. I could browse with explorer but got exactly the same problem with CheckPOInt - can't connect to website.
I have been working in the software business 15 years and have never come across such a confusing system as the pocketpc 2003 Connection Mangler.
When I connect the pocketpc up it says I'm connected via USB. I cannot find any settings which mention USB. The connection thingy at the bottom of the today screen says I'm connected to USB but the only option is to Hide!
I suppose the sensible thing to do is give up (after so many hours you begin to wonder whether its worth it) |
