|
|
So at work I put my phone on vibrate only. I opended up CamerAlert and was horrified when i got the audio announcement telling me that my database was out of date and to please update it! Now my phone was on silent/vibrate for a reason and CamerAlert ignored this setting and announced it to the whole office!!! It also put the volume to FULL...
Please can you fix this is a serious problem!
Thanks |

I think that is normal.
My phone is on silent vibrate, however I am playing Angry Birds in glorious noise surround.
The silent/vibrate only affects the ring tone as far as I am aware.
Glad to be corrected if that is different.

That is a limitation of Android and not our app. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I am guessing you had put the phone volume into silent but not the media volume (they are separate on Android). CamerAlert uses the media volume and not the phone one (as do most none phone based apps).
I have just done some testing and the only time I got no alert (when one would of been given) is when the media volume was off. It didn't make any difference what the phone volume was set to. |

That is correct. Currently we have no way of suppressing this. If anyone knows - please come forward. _________________ Lutz

How about you put an option whether you want the audio to play or not? Surely a simple message box on the screen would be good enough??? |

But so far, no-one else has complained about this and it has been running, on iPhone for nearly a year with the same alert.
The warning is only given once a week, and, given that the update is quite important, we thought most would like to know.
You could always set a calendar reminder to update each Wed morning and then you would avoid it interrupting a meeting. Or you could ensure the app was exited, when not in-use?
But i'll raise the possibility of an on-screen alert as an option. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'll be the second moaner then
I'd much rather have a pop up message. Or even better, the option to auto-download once a week. I suspect many (most?) people are on generous/unlimited data plans, so why not just get on with it in the background and don't leave it up to me to forget? |

Pardon me for interfering, but the announcement only happens when you start up CamerAlert. Perhaps it might be a good idea NOT to start up CamerAlert when you're in the middle of a board meeting or standing at the water cooler? Or do you need speed camera checks for leaving the office? _________________ Dennis

All of that did cross my mind as well.
Lost count of the times peoples phones have gone off in the middle of meetings, only to see a sickly smile from the offender.
If they can't remember to turn a phone off, what else do they forget to do in their work day?
And no, I haven't done it - but probably will now I've said that. Sod and his laws is bound to be watching me.

True, but I use Setting Profiles to automatically start up CamerAlert when the phone is on charge and not at home - which almost always means when it's in the car charger.
On the odd occasion I plug in to charge it at work I'd rather not have it shout at me!

You'd need to charge it a lot less if you didn't have an app using GPS running when it wasn't needed _________________ Darren Griffin |

errr....no.....
Setting Profiles ensures CamerAlert starts up when the phone goes on charge and automatically shuts down again when it comes off. |

Ah ok, no profile option for 'only when moving'? _________________ Darren Griffin |
