Hi
anyone round the Chester area know if the camera
GATSO:205@30
Heading:241 (Single Direction)
on Hoole road is permanantly out of use, it has an orange hood on it marked "not in use", is this a temporary thing or are the council one of those that are cutting back on cameras as part of its budget cut.
it still shows on the database as a live camera. |

Always a tricky one to answer...
I went to verify a "Remove" request last weekend for another camera which has been bagged for some time, but is still physically there.
MaFt the database supremo has the final call, as to whether it stays in the databse or goes (depending on length of time and also on any other circumstances such as whether there are any temporary roadworks around) - in fact a bagged, burnt, smashed or removed camera ALWAYS stays in the database, but gets flagged as dormant and isn't sent out in the normal weekly downloads.
Personally, I'm in two minds... one part of me doesn't see any harm in getting one more notification than I should, but part of me wants the database to be up-to the -minute as possible!
The important thing is - have you sent in a notification yourself before anyone else beats you to it? |

Agree with Andy on that one!
My personal view (wearing my verifier hat) is that a bagged camera (i.e. one wearing an orange hood on it marked "not in use") has the potential to go either way as the authorities may be "waiting for a part" to fix the camera so one day it may be out of action and the next day it may be back in action and live. Therefore I prefer to keep bagged cameras in the live database just in case, and have a false alert.
Alternatively, the authorities may take a time to decide whether the camera should be removed. So it's always worth submitting a Removal request as it may actually get removed and somebody has to be the first to submit it. However please don't complain if we don't remove it straight away!
As Andy has also said, MaFt has the final word and he's in the best position to make an "executive decision" about a particular camera.

Yes, go for it. It's been a long time, but I'm smugly finding my name in the listing again this week (a brand new mobile at the end of our street, cheeky beggars). I can't explain it, but it gives me a warm feeling (or is that my incompetence again?). _________________ Dennis

I'd agree with that. I always get a kick out of getting a warning for a beheaded camera. The danger is that they could easily replace the head unit and the camera is back in action in a day or so. _________________ Gone fishing! |

i think he was trying to do a joke whereby he mixes up incompetence with incontinence - hence the 'warm feeling'
however, it didn't work because in all the cases the word used was incompetence...
anyway, newtomoneowner, you weren't first to report it as not in use. so you'll have to keep trying!
