|

We've had a Socket Bluetooth GPS receiver for about 17 months and in that time we have had 3 failures of the cables that supply power to the GPS and/or our ipaq: twice the problem has been not in the lead that runs from the cigarette lighter socket to the Y-adapter but in the simple extension lead that runs from the Y-adapter to the second piece of equipment ... i.e. the lead that has on both ends a simple yellow plug of the kind that plugs into the GPS unit or into the back of the iPaq cradle or into an iPaq adapter tip.
On previous occasions we were able to obtain replacements from the company that did the servicing for our supplier. However, they are now out of stock and say they cannot get replacements from Socket, and furthermore the supplier says that he cannot help!
We have hunted high and low for a cable like this but have not been able to find one.
Does anyone know where we might get one? To repeat, we just need a cable with a plug at each end, not a cigarette lighter socket adapter with a Y-adapter. If we could find a supplier he might make a fortune from us since this cable seems to fail semi-annually!

Thanks Brandon. Have emailed them and will report back how we get on.
I notice that you are classed as a 'Beginner' whereas I am 'Advanced'!! Not sure how that happened as I come into the 'always asking questions' category, rather than the 'capable of answering questions' category!

Thanks for this recommendation Brandon . . . . it seems that no order is too small for transplantgps.com and we couldn't have had more helpful advice if we were placing an order for a top of the range bit of kit instead of just a bit of cable.

As a footnote to this thread ...
We have now also found a source for this simple lead in the UK. Go to http://www.affordable-pc-repairs.com/ and look for the item described as "Seidio Bluetooth charger cable" in the "PDA cables and accessories" page. You get a straight lead with yellow-tipped plugs on both ends for £5.49 (inc VAT) plus a bit extra for postage. These plugs fit straight into the Socket Bluetooth GPS receiver. They also fit into the adapter tip supplied with the Ipaq (model 3970 and presumably other models as well).
As someone else has commented it's extraordinarily irritating that such an expensive piece of equipment should be let down by the difficulty of tracking down a replacement for such a simple part. We're mightily relieved to have found a convenient source of supply.
