I am using 1.5 and getting the .map and large .gpx files both saved automatically to the SD card.
LostMike, what is the exact software version you're getting these results with? (To find the exact software version goto Settings -} About -} then hit the top left button, then the top right button then the top left button again.)
So that's how I get inside it...or should I leave well alone, (unless there are any tweaks that you can recommend?)

Be careful F-F.
Being the inquisitive kind I pressed the button that said "More".
I ended up eventually with a screen full of rotating numbers which eventually stopped, the whole thing crashed and when I revived it by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery it had gone back to default and I had to set it up again.
I blame Lucevans for putting these temptations in my way.

Sorry Bosun!
I think people are safe browsing through this extended data, with the exception of the "DImage" and "Speed test" buttons on the final page of information. Like you, I'm a curious type, so I have tried these - the speed test appears to perform a read/write speed test on the SD card that is inserted at the time (assuming it's not write-protected), and I'm guessing that the DImage function dumps an image of the flash memory (the Active 10's "disk") to SD card, but I've had odd things happen when I've tried that, so wouldn't advise anyone else to do it.
Please note I am not an employee of Satmap, I am not an electronic engineer or computer programmer, so you try these things at your own risk!
On another matter, excellent summary by Gibbo above. Maybe Satmap should employ him/her to write the manuals!
