|
|
Hi guys,
i just got my new Nissan Juke with onboard satnav Nissan Connect but there is no map for Cyprus. Although, they do promote this Nissan Connect here!!!
The SD card says it's NAVTEQ Europe 2010. I checked on Navteq's website and contacted them but they said they do not have any request from Nissan HQ to include Cyprus maps.
Is there a way to add the map of Cyprus from Garmin? or another vendor?
Thanks in advance

No, sorry. You're stuck with the maps Nissan choose to include. Having said that, looking at Navteq's site, they only have very basic coverage of the island so it wouldn't be of much use anyway? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the reply Darren. I already started sending a daily scheduled email to Nissan Cyprus until someone actually does something about this. And ok, my car only costs 16,000 euro. What bout people i know who purchased the Murano (85,000 starting price) !!!
I asked them what if i replace the console, and they said i will loose the warranty. Bloody MORONS!!!!!
thanks again |

But Navteq isn't showing any detailed mapping on their site for Cyprus. Is there? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Is there any mapping for Cyprus on the device? If not, does Cyprus not have a law about goods being fit for use? No point in selling a car with a sat nav that doesn't cover the localitity it's is being sold in.
Any form of free legal advise in Cyprus? |

Not sure that will be of any use. The nav is built-in, it's not an extra cost item and if there is no Navteq mapping available then that's that? _________________ Darren Griffin |

From what i got from Navteq is that they do not generate maps themselves. If nissan asks them to include a map on the nissan connect, they will. Garmin for instance, uses navteq's tech. Thus, they could get the garmin CY map and integrate it for the nissan connect.
They charge 1200 euro for this product which includes colour reverse camera and navigation. I actually asked them, do you have maps for cyprus? they said no. So, i didnt order this add-on. Although, when i went to the dealer to receive my car, it was already installed. I dont know if they made a mistake and gave me another car or if the UK factory made this mistake. So in a way, they charge people 1200 euro for a reverse camera! i know i shouldnt be complaining as i got this for free but still, this is a rip-off.
I will follow this up with a lawyer friend of mine although in cyprus, there is only one dealer for nissan. Same person is the importer of BMW, MINI, Range Rover. I dont think anything will come out of it as they have lot of money/power |

For others, yes, i agree.... ONLY if they paid money for the sat nav. |

Garmin are just another company who use Navteq map data.
Navteq are the map data provider and it is up to Nissan as the customer to buy the data and issue the DVDs for the territories they choose.
BUT regardless of all this, if there is NO map data for Cyprus then Nissan can't buy it from Navteq or issue a DVD with it on. Looking at Navteq's site, there appears to be only major roads mapped. _________________ Darren Griffin |

i see. so when and if navteq does the maps, it would then be available on the connect system. nevertheless, nissan is a big company to pursue this and ask for navteq to provide them with a map, since they sell this product to the local market. i found out from a collegue of mine that the same importer, does the same scheme for BMWs. He bought a brand new X5 beemer, they upsold him the navteq navigation system without having maps for cyprus |

I'm sure Navteq will have Cyrpus in their sights for mapping but when you consider the scope of mapping the entire island, Navteq will be looking at all the customers.
Their decision will be driven by what they consider priority areas. Whether Cyprus is one I don't know. I'll see if i can find out what plans they have for detailed Cyprus mapping and post back. _________________ Darren Griffin |
