Just purchased this unit ,and, so far I am very pleased with it,much faster than my Gov3 and lots of new features.
Just one question though, when I connect to my computer using 'home'it says that there is a latest map to download for free.
I'm a bit dubious about this,is it safe to download and will it affect my pgpsw cameras and POIs? |

Of course it's safe to download. Tom-tom are offering you be latest map under the Latest Map Guarentee program. It won't mess up your cameras or POIs although occasionally the unit does play up however there are ways to fix this. Either search the forum or ask.
Before you do anything make sure you do a full Windows Explorer backup NOT TT Home! See the Tomtom FAQ at the top of this forum for a guide. |

The one known problem can be that your existing mapsettings.cfg file may get replaced with a new one, thus possibly loosing your camera settings, but if you backup as PauB2005 suggests it can easily be restored. |

You purchased just at the right time. New v860 map has only been released in the last couple of weeks. |

Thanks folks, will download the map tonight,I have already done a back up.
If there is a problem with the mapsettings cfg., is it just a case of overwriting this file only from the back up? |

The mapsettings.cfg file is in the map folder.
I first of all rename it to something like mapsettingsold.cfg and then copy and paste the original file from the backup into the new map folder.
Its only necessary to do it if you loose the camera data or some of your favourites if you have any yet. |

Maybe, maybe not! Here's the story...
In the past, there were lots of complaints that when you got a new map, Home failed to copy across that file. This meant that the system created a "fresh" one with none of your settings in it.
The way round that was usually to replace the new file with your old version from a backup, BUT sometimes the system would refuse to boot up with it.
The way round THAT was to connect to Home again and, using the "Operate my Go" on-screen emulator, make a change that affects that file (usually just adding a new Favourite does the trick).
With more recent versions of Home and TT software, it SHOULD copy the settings across from the old file to the new one, but if anything goes wrong for whatever reason it will produce the re-booting problem. If that happens you DON'T want to replace the mapsettings file with your old one as the problem will persist. Just try the "new Favourite" trick as above.
You would only need to use the old file from a backup if the system DID boot up fine, but your settings were missing.
Hope that makes sense! |

"Clearflash" is the first thing to try...
http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6178
Run the utility three times (don't ask me why 'three times', I've only ever needed to run it once, but that's the advice from others here).
Also, have you looked to see if you actually have a map folder now? |

Connected to 'home' again ,this time it said that my unit needed another download, this seems to have fixed the problem with the only issue being that the spoken camera warnings now need setting again, doing this now.
Many many thanks for your help |

And what map version do you see now. It should be v860.3101 for a Go530 |

You must make sure the music files in itunes are saved as mp3 files and then put them in the mp3 folder on the unit. _________________ David |
