|
|
Evening all,
I have had my 750 live for a few weeks now, so far its good apart from the fact that it does not show correct camera speeds,
for example a 30mph camera shows 19, 40 mph camera 25 and a 50 mph showing 31.
I have been in communication with TomTom and they reply most days, I have also had answers from other forums,
So far Tomtom advised me to reinstall, factory reset, now they are telling me there is no problem with the unit..
Below is their reply....but what is the point of a camera unit that is supposed to detect a 50mph camera but show 31???
anyone know if my unit is working correctly? ie the same as their own?

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support. This is Abby again and we are always glad to assist you.
Thanks for your e-mail. I really appreciate your patience and co-operation.
I have investigated your case further. I would like to inform you that your device is working absolutely fine and there is no fault regarding the speed alerts.
As far as the speed limit is concerned, if it is set at 30 MPH the alert will show 19 MPH, 40 MPH is shown at 25 MPH and 50 MPH is shown at 31 MPH because the alert works at 60% of the set speed limit.
Let me explain you, 60% of 30 is 19., It means if you set the speed limit at 30, when it reaches 19 you will get an alert because it has reached 60%.
Same way, If you set the speed limit to 40 you will get an alert on 25 as 60% of 40 is 25.
Please note that Safety Camera alerts will only give an audio warning when you are traveling faster than 60% of the speed limit, or actually exceeding the speed limit. This feature is designed to stop you being needlessly warned when in slow moving traffic.
Hope, the information that I gave you is to your expectations, please let me know if you have any other queries, I would be more then happy to assist you.
Andrew, you are our valuable customer and your satisfaction is our prime concern.
With Kind Regards
Abby

Rolling on the floor laughing at this.
Did TomTom really write this stuff?

And co-incidentally, some countries use something called the "metric system". Bizzarely, the UK has kind of half adopted this system of measurements except for roads because people wouldn't understand it. So here's a little bit of information for TomTom:
19 MPH = 30 km/h
25 MPH = 40 km/h
31 MPH = 50 km/h

Or maybe because 60% of 1 mile is 1 kilometer? Nah. Not possible.

Dude, your unit has mixed up km and miles. There is a sticky about this somewhere but to be honest, I'm laughing too much at TomTom's reply to find it. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Can it be fixed or is it a return as unfit? |

I'm laughing at TomTom's reply too - if the date was April 1st it would be a winner! |

There is? I don't recall one. A similar issue affects Garmin owners if they import our POIs with POILoader set to KPH rather than MPH but I'm not aware of any ability to control this with TomTom? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Are these TomTom alerts or PGPSW POI alerts?
Is your unit set to use miles?
I seem to remember this (or the exact opposite) happening with V9.024 software and it being fixed in V9.026, have you the latest application installed? _________________ Drivelux |

You're right, that was the one I was thinking of! Surely this is the same thing, why don't TomTom get it?
Sounds like the unit has to be factory reset and reinstalled. It might be best to just send it back to the retailer and get a swapout if TomTom don't recognise this problem.
Their reply is just bizarre though. _________________ Gone fishing! |

How about the "blue sky, thinking out of the box" explanation? TomTom decided it would be a good idea to only warn for cameras if the driver is at some risk of exceeding the speed limit (not a bad idea actually, unless you're the sort of person who likes to see an icon in order to satisfy yourself that they've got that camera in their database for next time you go that way at some high rate of knots). Therefore, do NOT warn unnecessarily, with the break point set at 60% of the camera speed. Warn only if the driver is doing 19mph or more in a 30 zone etc. Being TomTom, they've got the implementation wrong - it shows the 60% speed, not the camera speed. Maybe. I bet Stephen Fry would award me a couple of points. _________________ Dennis

Not impossible but I suspect you're giving rather more credit to TomTom than they deserve in this case _________________ Darren Griffin |

Oh ye of little faith!
TomTom are very innovative...
Bluetooth handsfree phone pairing - brilliant if it would work.
A handy on-device system that allows users to update maps and share with other users - ditto.
Integrated safety camera database - ditto.
RDS-TMC Traffic service - ditto.
FM transmitter for car speakers - ditto.
A computer program (TT Home) for users to "plug and go" update their devices - ditto.
A security system to stop their devices being pirated - ditto.
Anybody care to add to the list? _________________ Dennis

The latest reply from Tomtom is pasted below,
They are asking me if I had this problem after updating? How would I know as I was advised to update the unit as soon as I got home from the store.
What do members think? should I return the unit for replacement? Anyone know of any fixes? I dont like to see a warning flashing 19, 23 etc..
I am guessing I could use the database of speed cameras from here, BUT I am not willing to pay £16.99 to throw at a problem that might not be fixed with a new database.
Another problem (which I have sorted) is trying to install the phone address book from iphone, It just shows a LONG list of numbers... iphone modern, tomtom modern why dont they talk to each other?
Anyway here is the latest reply.
Any help gratefully received please, thanks in advance.

As you have mentioned you had 2 TomToms before and both showed the actual Speed camera speed i.e 40 mph 50 mph NOT 60% of the speed. Correct me if I am wrong?
Please be assured I would provide you all the information regarding this.
Andrew, Could you please let me know if you are getting incorrect speed limit after updating your device?
I have spoken to the concern department. As a latest update I would like to inform you, you might be facing this issue after updating your device where you would get incorrect speed limit.
Our concern department is working on this and trying to resolve this issue as early as possible.
I sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused.
We value your time. Thanks you for giving me an opportunity to assist you.
If you have any other queries please feel free to contact us. We would be more then happy to help.
With Kind Regards
Abby

We use an entirely different, and far better system of alerts that are not affected by any issue TomTom have with theirs.
We can warn you of camera type, road speed etc with voice alerts. our data is more accurate, far more comprehensive and far more upto date.
The choice is yours. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi
Why not just go into setup and change from KPH to MPH.
