|
|
My Go730 which I bought in June this year is going back to Tomtom for the second time due to poor battery life. At present, when fully charged, if I unplug the charger the charge bar indicator will drop straight away by one third and switch off in an average od 30 minutes.
This is with the unit just sat there not calculating a route, no voice instructions etc.
Now the point is, that on their Outlet website, where this was bought, they state that battery life is up to 5 hours ( a joke I know) and that, quote "These devices are units which were broken at some point, but which have been completely overhauled by TomTom"
When I spoke to someone at TomTom, I was told that as these are refurbished units, the battery will be second hand and in their view, one hour battery life is acceptable for a refurbished unit.
How can that be, given what their sales blurb says and why don't they say this so a customer can make an informed choice.
If they say "completely overhauled", in my opinion everying should be up to new spec, otherwise they should be described as partially overhauled.
Deception by TomTom I feel, and I wonder how this would stand up in consumer law.
Anyway, it is being returned and we shall see if there is an improvement. |

At best I would expect TomTom to offer a full refund if you really push them on the issue of second rate battery life from a refurb product.
Doing this leaves you between a rock and hard place, you have your cash back, you can go and buy a new device at greater cost which is less capable with far less features on it than the 730 you are getting rid of - Your choice but the 730 was and still is a very capable device, just use the car charger cable.
A new 730 would be hard pushed to offer much over two hours when being used without a charger, it is possible to fit a replacement battery although its not the easiest of devices to do this to - Mike |

same here with my referb 930
it would of gone back by now as battery is about the same as yours and also had a few crashes/reboots but as mike says, were not going to find any brand new ones out there and imo these are better than most of the newer models now a days anyway so its ciggy lighter all the time for me. |

No, don't get me wrong, my 730 does what I want and I shall keep it.
I actually use this in my car and on my bike. I use its bluetooth to stream stereo to my helmet where I have one of those tiny Chinese bluetooth receivers and a filo 5 amplifer and some slimline Panasonic speakers.
For the cost of those and the refurbed 730, in my opinion it is far better value than a TomTom Rider or a Garmin Zumo 600 or whatever, that a fellow rider had. I had to ask twice HOW MUCH ? and no headset or stereo ?
I know it's not waterproof, but on my French tour this year, tucked behind the fairing screen on a RAM mount, it was excellent.
I also find the FM very good.
I just think that TomTom should put a new battery in these or at least one that is almost as good as new. I shall just keep using the warranty up and then will probably swap the battery myself eventually. |

Try www.satnavrepairservice.com for a new battery. they charge about £25 for a 720 so I'd expect it to be much the same for a 730. And quick turnaround. If you can get to their London address it can be done while you wait. _________________ TT Go Essential |

My GO520, refurbished, bought a year ago is now on a dead battery, even though I've never used it on battery alone except for a very few minutes.
New battery ordered, £13.98 including postage, wasn't worth shopping round. _________________ Dennis

Update:
My new battery arrived this morning, two hours before I received the email saying it had been shipped. MDSBattery.co.uk. - pretty good recommendation innit? _________________ Dennis

Hi Dennis
Do you know if the battery for the x30 series will fit in the x20 series?
Regards

Which is why. Running on ext power all the time will kill a battery flat much quicker than exercising the battery every once in a while. _________________ Darren Griffin |

My referb 530 only lasts about 45 mins (purchased of TT web site last July 2010). My pc will not charge it full for some reason. Have to use either the mains charger or car charger to get it to show full. No problem using the same pc usb port and lead to charge all my other items, mp4 players etc. |

True for old NiCd batteries but is it still true for Li-ion?

Your PC's USB ports are restricted to 500mA current by design, while the dedicated chargers are rated at 1-2 Amps. |

The TomTom units running the latest Navcore never show a 100% battery charge irrespective of charger this is something they "added" to the software for some strange reason.
Li-Pol batteries don't suffer from the same "Memory syndrome" that used to affect Ni-Cad cells, but it certainly doesn't do them any harm letting them run down until the device shuts off once in a while, one point to consider though, is that fully discharging a Li-Pol cell beyond the point at which the device shuts down will knacker it for good - Mike |
