|
|
Hi, i have an old Nuvi as a backup in my glovebox, i think it's the Nuvi 200 (the one with the flip up antenna). I've updated to the latest firmware from Garmin website, and put on a few new car symbols.
The main reason i never really use this sat nav is because i find the vehicle symbols are far too big and cover the road i'm on too much.
All i want is a simple blue dot icon as a vehicle icon, there are none on the Garmin website, does anyone know where i would find one from ?, is there a program to make them myself ?.
I did notice the extensions were not .jpg so i wasn't sure how to create one ?
Best Regards,
Andy |

As mentioned i've already tried the garmin garage, there are definitely no dot icons there at all, they are all 3D models of cars, bikes, boats, planes etc..... as for the software, i'll give that a go although it looks tricky!,,,, do i just have a single dot .bmp and make the same one on each of the 36 different angles ?

Well a dot or ball looks the same from any angle so you could use just one image for all 36. |

Cheers Paul, i'll give it a go in the morning, i'm sur ei read that i'd have to overwrite one of the icons already on the unit rather than just stick it on the unit under a new name ??.... or did i dream this ?

Ah what the heck, just downloaded a red dot .bmp from the web, resized it to 90 x 90 (as Garmin icons are) and clicked on join images into vehicle files and Gartool wont find the bmp files !!
I'll try again in the morn...

I'm happy to have a go at this for you, do you have a link to this 'Gartool' as I can't find one? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ah ignore my last, found it but it's a PC util and I'm on a Mac so can't help.
There is a 3D arrow available in the Garage or the Maposaurus icon, wouldn't they suffice? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren, thanks very much for trying to help, much appreciated... No the arrow icons, infact all their icons look too big on my device especially if the maps are zoomed out. They cover the whole width of the road and more. I just simply want a small red (or bright coloured) dot for simplicity.
I do have a dot.bmp, i've even renamed 36 of them dot.xx, dot.010, dot.020.......dot.350 as suggested in Gartool, but for some perculiar reason Gartool doesn't "see" them when asked to point towards them, so i'm no further forward.
Best Regards,

And they are definitely in .bmp format with .bmp file extension? _________________ Darren Griffin |

It appears you can just use one bmp
Quote: |
It does not matter if you do not have a complete set of images - if any are missing, GarTool will automatically repeat the last image. It is therefore possible to create a new vehicle file from a just one single image (numbered 000).
|
However it's possible the file must be in an unmentioned format. |

Or
Dot.010.bmp |

Yep, they are all called dot000.bmp, dot010.bmp to dot350.bmp (definitely bmp format) and then i tried just one as dot000.bmp, Gartool still can't see them ! - very odd !!

Ah, hold on. I'm dense. No other word for it.
I had the last one as dot.zzz.bmp and it should have been dot.xxx.bmp !
It has now created a .srf file and i'll try it on my Nuvi in a minute and report back !. It has zero size so i doubt it'll work anyway !
