|

Hi,
I've just bought a tomtom 550 live and still trying to get to grips with it.
I've put the speed camera POI into the correct location and when i boot up the tomtom, i can see the POI's and i can set it up correctly, and it is working ok to the best of my knowledge.
1-I've then put in some POI's of petrol stations from TOTAL, Shell, BP, into the same location, set it up (without warnings, just display). When i'm travelling around, i pass so many of these petrol stations, and it does not show up at all on the display map. I've remembered to put "show on 2D and 3D" but still no luck.
Is there a maximum limit of POI's the tomtom will display?
2-Secondly, i've bought a 4gb microsd (format to fat32), put some pictures on it, and it doesn't display my pictures.
I made a "copy" of my normal map and put onto the memory card to see if it accesses it, but it doesn't seem to read anything on the card. How do i get the 550 to read off the card as well as the in built memory?
THanks for your help.

Hi and welcome.
1. Have checked your POIs have been set to show on map? Under Change Preferences there should be an option to set which ones show.
2. IIRC you have to use either the internal or the SD Card. You can't use both at the same time. To use the SD Card copy the entire internal memory contents (not just the map) to the SD Card. Switch off and then Insert the card and switch the unit on. It'll boot from the card instead.
Whilst you are at it and if you have not done so already copy the internal memory contents to a folder on your PC as a backup. |

Paul's not quite right with his point #2.
Older models did use to use EITHER the internal memory OR the SD card, but all the newer ones including yours can use both simultaneously. E.g you can have a Europe map on the internal memory and a US map on an SD card.
So you can put your .jpg pictures on the card. But they do need to go in a folder called "photos".
I do the same with music on my 940 (unfortunately the 950 doesn't have the mp3 player). All the music is stored in subfolders inside a main folder called "mp3".
Also text files (either html or plain .txt format) can go in a "text" folder and can be read by the document reader. |

Sorry about that. Was trying to remember what I did to get the full map download for my 740. |

IIRC (and it's quite possible I don't) people were able to get the full map by copying the device contents to a card and connecting it to their computer using a card reader. HOME sees the card as a device with 4GB of memory and downloads the full map to that.
Even if I IDRC it's worth a try. I always update this way, even though I've got plenty of room for the UK maps that I use on my 720. _________________ Anita
