Yes you are right about the connect to home and the shutdown sequence, its happening on my go 740 live, also i ahve had other problems with live services, have spent 2 days deleting, installing, setting up, etc....waste of time. The guy who was giving you grief was it Mr t yes it is happening and yes it is a tom tom error, so get your facts right before you start putting silly questions in. Good luck SPIKEY MIKEY i have now sent an e mail to tom tom saying forget any more solutions, i have a frazzled brain with hours of download attempts. Does any 1 know how i can copy and paste tom toms replies to me, i did try but it was not allowed something about using html and you should use bbc files, way over my head this stuff.

Quite simple... This forum uses certain characters for special purposes.
The usual problem with posting replies from TomTom is that they use the "greater than" character (above the full stop on a UK keyboard) as an arrow between menu items, and this forum has that as reserved for other purposes.
Just change those symbols for a different character like a dash - or a forward slash / and the problem should go away.

I would love to post all the tom tom replies i have had over the past few days, because it was all to no avail, and i think they know this, such a waste of time. Oh spikey Mikey had a problem like i did with connecting to home on his pc and getting a shutdown sequence as used in closing down your tom tom. Believe me it may not be common but it does happen, i think his name was MR.T, anyway i have informed tom tom not to try to sort it out for me as i will follow this forum and wait for a solution to this problem, spent the best part of 18 hours downloading etc, waste of time. Again if u know a way round me sending tom tom correspondance do let me know.

Ah, do you mean someone in TT customer services called "MrT".
The reason I asked was that there is a "MrT" on this forum who is knowledgeable and helpful, and I couldn't see what wrong advice he might have given you.

Thanks for trying that MrT, much appreciated.
Not sure what silly questions I asked to SpikeyMikey on his shutdown sound issue but I tested and confirmed what he had found and said why I think it happens and it seemed to explain the issue.
I am not convinced that playing a shutdown sound on a restart when connecting to Home is a major issue compared to others, but it is a change from the last version of software.
If you have a shutdown sound installed it will play when the device shuts down or restarts in computer connected mode when connecting to Home and there is nothing you can do about this except remove the shutdown sound. _________________ Drivelux
One week in after downloading the new Navcore - having avoided the original release and I am also experiencing the same problems as reported here.
Long time to get a GPS lock
Pockets GPS verbal camera warnings intermittent
Long time to get a traffic lock - in fact no lock at all yesterday morning over a 60 minute journey
However IQ routes still a dream, travelled from M4 J8/9 to far side of Maidenhead on Weds evening and then back to M4 on Thursday morning. Both journeys during rush hour - in built car unit on way in - journey time 25 minutes, TT on way out 6 minutes and probably 2 miles shorter completely avoiding town centre - no contest

This has confused the hell out of me, Mr T (on this forum) very kindly replicated my problem on his device to prove that it wasn't just my unit that exhibited the behaviour I was describing.
TT support have replied a couple of times and are now asking for my system info again, which I supplied with my first communication. Other than this they seem willing to follow the 'challenge' through.
I don't recall saying ANYONE was giving me grief, and I don't think I asked any silly questions _________________ Mike

Yes, similar experience here. Having taken the plunge and downloaded 9.058 (having realised from comments on PGPS that I wasn't still being offered 9.054) I find the delay with Live Traffic irritating. This morning I travelled 11 miles on an A road before Live finally woke up. This afternoon it was 17 miles, this time on mostly A roads. Both journeys were in an around suburbia, so not exactly out in the back of beyond. If TT could fix this and have it running as it was before then v9 would have a lot going for it. As it is, any jams early on in the journey will not be detected, making Live's usually excellent info quite useless
I have also seen elsewhere reference units (mine's a 540) shutting down with no obvious reason (ie no loss of external power), the screen going blank for a few seconds, then starting to reboot all on its own, with first the TT logo, then the screen you get when disconnecting from Home (with the quick progress bar along the bottom). It then resumes where it left off. Very distracting if it happens on a complicated junction! I thought initially that this was probably a hardware problem, but if others are experiencing this then perhaps not. It also happened with v8 so it isn't restricted to v9 in my case.
I reported the slow start-up of LIVE traffic to TT. They replied:
"We apologize for the inconvenience caused and it seems that most of our customers are experiencing the same issue with LIVE Services that it is taking long time to upload and working slow.
It could be related to network. However, we have not received any updates from our development team. Once we get the updates, we will definitely let you know. "
I'm pleased they have acknowledged the problem and not just told me to do a reboot/reinstall.

So yet again TT waste my time getting me to reset the unit! My case is now with 2nd line support, apparently.

I do not think it is the network as when I have my Go on my desk and I am on the laptop, the gprs makes a lot of interference noise on the laptop speakers when it is communicating and when I start my unit up I can hear it connect to the network, then it does nothing significant for a few minutes, even if I try to make it download weather.
My feeling is that the unit is set to poll every few minutes and the first poll is not carried out until the end of the first period rather than at the start of the first period or the first poll fails as the device has not yet connected to the gprs network and it does not start until the second period.
I also get the impression that the period between polls has been extended, probably to reduce network/server traffic.
This is all speculation rather than actual knowledge about the cause of the problem. _________________ Drivelux

I think you could be on the right lines. Sometimes I get a quick connection/download of the LIVE traffic - this seems to happen when I also get a quick GPS lock (nowhere near every time though). It also seems slower during morning/evening rush hours - presumably due to increased network traffic (TT and Vodafone in general) and TT's server could be struggling too.
As I pointed out to TT when I reported the problem - the whole idea of the LIVE traffic is to Avoid delays. At the moment you are faced with a 6 minute delay before you even start driving or you take a chance and possibly head into a big delay.

I received a very strange reply from Ruth at Tom Tom, they have now embedded my log in for my go 740 live. My subscription now end in December 2010 although i paid until June 2011. My question to her was it safe for me to download the new app, i am confused by this, any 1 know what this means, i am still on the old app.8.37 i think, can i download the 9.58 or is it still unsafe. I will have to call them on Monday and find out what is going on, it seems if i try to log in to my account it wont activate, all i wanted to know is could i download the new app, i had 2 days of mucking round with downloads, resets, installing maps etc, and this is the end result, was told that the live services would roll over in January. I am puzzled by this........... This is what happens when you have a problem and you dont have enough knowledge about these things.
