I don't know whether this has already been reported here but I couldn't find it.
If I define a destination in my Tomtom and it calculates a route, then I go into Find alternative then Travel via and define a waypoint. The Tomtom recalculates the route but the new route is the same as the previous route. It doesn't go via the waypoint. The only difference is that it has put an icon on the map at the waypoint.
I put this to Tomtom, as follows:-:-
"When, after setting a destination and planning a route, I go to Find Alternative then Travel via... and select a place. The Tomtom recalculates a route, but the new route does not go via the via. The new route is the same as the old route. The via is ignored. As a specific example. I am in Reading and I planned a route to London. The route goes along the M4, which is correct. If I add Henley-on-Thames as a via the new recalculated route is the same as the previous route, along the M4, and does not go via Henley. This seems to me to be a clear malfunction. I have tried this exercise using Limited Speed and Fastest Route modes. Under Version Information I see:- Device xxxxx xxxxx App 9.026.483454.2, OS 473972 (1010, 15/12/2009).
Please can you advise me how to overcome this problem."
They replied about a fortnight later on 13th July 2010, after some exchanges asking me for more information, as follows:-
"I have been informed that this issue has been reported previously and should be fixed in a future version of the application software. We do not have a timetable on when this will be released as of yet. We can only suggest you check often in TomTom for updates."
I connect my Tomtom roughly once a week via Home, and I'm still waiting for the fix.
I have been using Tomtom since version 5, and it has always done vias until I got the this model. I often use vias to force it along a route I know I prefer. The fact that the XL IQ Routes doesn't do vias is a pretty major fault, I think. |

Is this an XL IQ Routes or an XL2 IQ Routes?
And which software version are you running?
My XL IQ Routes is a little non-standard, but "Travel via" certainly works on it.

I've also checked this functionality on my girlfriend's Tomtom, which I believe is the narrow-screen UK only version of mine (mine is Europe maps), and hers didn't do vias either, so I'm interested to know that there are ones that do vias.
Here is part of the system information I sent to Tomtom as part of the exchanges with them (I've overwritten the serial number).

I've edited your file to remove the "Device ID" and your email address too.
That .bif file is showing you've got v9.053 build 520930.2
I had that same version on mine until last month, and I don't remember the "via" functionality being missing, although mine was for the LIVE edition so that's where there MAY be a difference. |

I did take photos of the map overview screens of the without-via and the with-via routes, showing that the only difference was the appearance of an icon with a '1' on it at the via point, although I'm not sure I still have them. I also checked that the turn-by-turn instructions were the same as the map overview (ie not going through via).
Thank you for your edits, Andy. |

I don't remember seeing anyone else complain about this, which I would have thought I would have done, if it was a widespread problem.
But I think with this one, having whetted your appetite with the info that mine does do them, I think we need to find someone else on the forum who has got a standard "off the shelf" UK model, so you can compare with theirs.
Have you ever updated it? i.e. did it come with an earlier version of software on it that you could try reverting to? |

Hi
Are you putting the via before or after the destination in the list,it needs to be before the destination in the list.

Washman |
This isn't when using itinerary planning, but on the single-step "Travel via..." function you get to from the "Find alternative" screen |

I've noticed this on my dads unit, not tested on my rider yet...
Plotting a route without a Via, and IQ Routes fires up, but if I then do a route with a 'via' option, it's not an IQ Route, and is instead just A to B to C... |

How can you tell?
On mine, if I get it to calculate a route (say from Cambridge to Huntingdon) , the new v9 summary screen shows that it is using IQ routing, both while it is calculating....
and when it has finished....
If I then add a "via" point, (say Ely), while it is calculating the route it still says it is using IQ routing.....
although I'll admit that on the final summary it just shows the details from the original route in that part of the screen.....
(But I think we are drifting away from ClassA's original problem, where his unit is not calculating the "via" at all!) |

The first post could perhaps do with an edit, as well.

Done! Thanks for spotting that.
To be honest, now that TT use a different encryption system for the maps, I'm not sure if the Device ID is such a valuable piece of information any more.
But better safe than sorry, I guess! |
