Europe's Gailileo satellite navigation network could suffer further delays as funding shortfalls take effect.
Beset by delays and infighting over the mounting costs, Galileo was originally projected to be operational by 2013 but this target will not now be met.
Although the first operational fleet of 18 vehicles is still on target for 2014, with the original £2billion already spent on the validation test vehicles the full fleet of 30 satellites is still a very long way off with future budgets for the purchase of the full fleet now in jeopardy.
With Galileo funded by EU member states, who are already struggling to find cuts in their budgets, it is difficult to see where the European Commission expects to find the extra funding.

So, where can we donate using PayPal?
Or, how about a 1 EURO tax on satnavs to help pay for it?
Seriously, we need to find a way to make it happen, so we are not dependent on one country for location information. |

The propaganda has it that the US satellites are old and crumbling. But I can't believe the US military would let that happen. Also I wonder what China might already have up there? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Gailileo only just made it in time to secure its frequency from the ITU, and don't forget GLONASS is still going under the Russians control. |
