|
|
Hey,
Just got a GlobalSat BT-308 to use with my IPAQ 1940 (w/Bluethooth).
I can connect fine - but when I try the GPS Info that comes with it, as soon as I hit the "Start GPS" - nothing happens (using COM8 & 38400 baud - or also tried w/4800 baud)...Switching to the GPS Info tab shows nothing...
If I hit the VTG checkbox...I get a $PSRF ...OK in the data window...but then everything seems to freeze. I have to shutdown bluethooth to be able to do anything else.
I know the connection is fine, cuz I can hit the Cold Start button, and I see the BT-308 reset itself...
Any ideas?
Thx |

On the iPAQ, in the BlueToothManager, have you subscribd to the Serial Port of the BT receiver? _________________ Lutz

Yeah - I have the BT-GPS COM Port shown there...although it shows in the Outgoing Connections only in the Bluetooth Active Connection screen... |

That's not enough. In the BTM, tap and hold the entry for the BT-308 (tap and hold, not simple tap) . A popup menu should appear "Connect to Serial Port" tap that - the icon should then change to indicate a current connection. Now start your application and try again. _________________ Lutz

That's what I've been doing - the icon does change (same, but with coupla green arrows)...Before connection, nothing shows up in teh "Active COnnection" tab of the BTM - after the Connec (tap & hold as you said, then select "Connect"), icon changes, "Active COnnection" tab now shows GPS...but still same scenario. |

Hmm... Maybe the GlobalSat is set to SiRF protocol? Any chance you can drain it's battery completely so that it resets to NMEA? _________________ Lutz

Same thing with me & my 2215. However, if I use TomTom gps and set it to SIRF Blutooth then I can check the satellite connection using TomTom GPS. The supplied software doesn't work for me ($PSRF then nothing happens). Good signal though 3 - 4 sats inside a factory building! |

That's a definite sign the receiver is set to SiRF protocol. $PSRF is a NMEA command and of course is ignored in SiRF mode.
Unless you really, really ned to, try not to use the SiRF protocol. NMEA is much more common, and some of the applications (as you noticed) do not support SiRF at all. _________________ Lutz

I know you are right.
What I don't understand is why TomTom still works when I set the receiver to " NMEA 0183v2 Bluetooth" if the receiver is set to SiRF mode?????????? |

TomTom is known for reprogramming the receiver temporarily... they may sense the SiRF stream and switch over silently. _________________ Lutz

Another thing I don't understand - is that the BT-308 lists NMEA 0183 as its protocol but not SiRF, how can it revert to SiRF?
I'm awaiting the unit re-setting itself with the battery run down, althougha s it works fine with TomTom I may be as well leaving it as it is.
It's only the GPS Info program I can't get to work, but TomTom has a similar thing anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The receiver has a SiRF chipset which can talk both protocols. NMEA text stream or SiRF binary. NMEA is much more common, but there are still attempts from time to time to use SiRF by default. Even though it doesn't really yield any benefits over NMEA. _________________ Lutz
