Put the map on a microSD card then insert that in to the slot on the base of the device, once you have the map on the memory card delet the map from the internal memory and you will have loads of free space - Mike |

Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.
Do a format of the unit, don't use quickformat.
Restore your backup. Does that help? _________________ David |

Yes, done quite a lot of the above and got it going again.
Backed up (explorer), formatted the unit, restored an older backup from last year, TT Home then updated the map and application to latest (v8, not v9), copied over an old mapsettings.cfg and is all now working!!!
Thanks all

Slightly off topic but the above is relevant to me, just bought map of France, and is on the device storage (540) can i simply copy from this onto micro SD card, then delete as above and everything works, or do I need to download again straight onto SD card. |

Just copy the France map folder from the internal storage to the memory card then delete the copy stored on the device and it will be fine - Mike |

Yes, me too - stupidly I accepted a new application via Home for my 540 Live, only to find that virtually all of the Live services now come up with sim card problem, and error 1008. This includes traffic info, although strangely when docked in Home everything works just fine, it's only when it is undocked that Lives ceases to work.
Have raised a question with TT yesterday, but nothing so far. That's a pain since we are off on holiday tomorrow.
I will try to restore the previous backup - fortunately I didn't back up the new version so I assume it should still be there.
I should know by now that accepting a TT update is fraught with danger! |
Latest from TT today in response to my question:
I’m sorry to hear about the issue you are facing with the LIVE services on your TomTom device.
To resolve this issue can I ask that you carry out the steps below.
Step 1 - Remove the Application
- Connect your navigation device to your computer.
- TomTom HOME starts.
- If HOME offers a new application, click Back.
- In HOME, click Manage My GO
- Select the Items on device tab and then select Applications.
- Select the Items on computer tab and then select Applications.
- Click Remove selected items.
Step 2 - Update the Application Once
- Select 'Update my GO
- Update and Install any software applications that are offered
- Click on "Device" in the top left of HOME and then Disconnect
- Disconnect your TomTom device from your computer
Step 3 - Testing the LIVE Services
- In the Main Menu, tap on LIVE services.
- Now Click on My Services in the bottom right corner.
- Here you should now see all your Services and your Traffic bar should now be loading.
This seems to my untrained mind that TT are now offering a revised application? Or is this a request to merely reinstall the new one that I already know doesn't work on my 540?
Will attempt later today when time permits. |

They are offering to replace the 'faulty' build with a previous one 8.371. See HERE _________________ Gee-Pee

Thanks GP, I hadn't seen that. 8.371 is the version I restored to last week, so it looks as though a solution has yet to appear. |

All they've done is put v8 back onto Home. I wonder if us UK owners will ever see a fully functional v9?
Best thing about v9 is being able to disable the voice directions, without removing the audible camera alerts. Oh well, we'll see what happens but I'm not too optimistic..... |

Yes, this for me was probably the best change of all. I understand that there is somewhere a 'silent voice' that you can download for this, but for the moment I'm hoping TT can sort out this shambles. Not sure I want to add anything for now that might make things even worse! |

Today I'm still being offered 9.054 on Home, even though they knew last week it was causing serious problems with Live. Surely someone at TT is running a x40 and has realised there is a problem with this upgrade?? If so, why continue to offer it? Are they really that dim?? |

HOME will offer an application a second time. Do NOT install that application.
We are working on a solution for the new application. Once this solution is available we will update this FAQ. |
They are well aware of this and their web site has included details about how to overcome the issue whilst at the same time telling users to disregard the additional update which puts the broken Navcore back on the device - Mike |

Has anybody here, who has spoken to TomTom, been given an ETA of when a working update will be released? _________________ (Older kit: TomTom Go Original, 910, 940 Live, 1005 Live and Snooper S4 Neo. Mazda TomTom NB1 built-in). |
