|

I've just upgraded the map on my 760T to CN Europe 2011.10. As the size of the file is 1.51gb I decided to move the map from the unit to the SD card. I have 1.64gb free memory on the unit and 1.77gb free memory on the SD card. However when i try to plan a journey from Brussels (my home location and starting point) to Otranto, Italy (approx 2000km), I receive the following error message: Unable to calculate route. Not enough memory available
As I have plenty of free memory available, what could be the cause? I've removed the previous map from the card( This map was a similar size, was located on the SD card and had no error message for the same location). Are there any temporary files from the previous map installation that could be causing a problem? I used the MapSource and Map Install programs, which incidentally took some time to select every required region from the Map. Is there a quicker way than just clicking 'every region'?
I would really appreciate any help.

I don't think it's the static memory you have on the unit and card, but the working RAM memory the device uses when calculating and storing the route. It MAY also be that the route can't be calculated for some other reason, but you are being given the wrong error message.
First off, I would check your settings to see if you are generating far more turns, for example by excluding motorways, or if there is some other barrier, eg an on-route country missing from your maps (as you are in mainland Europe it's unlikely to be 'exclude ferries'!). Also I'm not really sure, but having a lot of POIs set to display COULD use more resources (?).
Having said all that, if these aren't the possible causes, I'd not expect to get such a message much these days with te power of the devices, and it might be worth checking with Garmin. But in the short term, can you break the journey into stages, or separate routes, to see if it reduces the loading sufficiently?
Hopefully you will get more ideas from other posters. _________________ David

To select every region in MapSource, just zoom right out until you can see all of the map. Then left click outside the map, say outside the bottom RH corner, and drag all the way up and then all the way across, to sweep the whole map.

dales - does that mean that nachzehn could also sweep out a rectangle from start (Brussels) to end (Otranto, Italy) to make sure he included all the countries needed for his route (to save loading ALL of the Europe map)? _________________ David

Yes, that's right.
Zoom in so you can see your whole route.
Then sweep a rectangle and you will get all the map tiles that impinge on the swept area (so you end up with the rectangle plus a bit more).

Big Perk and Dales,
Thanks for your support and advice! I recreated the map based on Dales' advice to include the whole map. I did this and now the problem has been resolved! I think that I must have omitted a part of the map that included the route!
All ok now and no error messages! Thanks again!!
