|

Another first for PocketGPSWorld. Whitecat Software have developed a speed camera detector for phones running Google's Android OS.
The software, called EZCam, uses .CSV format files and is fully compatible with the PocketGPSWorld SpeedCam database and is now listed on our compatibility table here.
EZCam uses a HUD type threat display. On-Screen visual warnings indicate the speed limit, distance to camera and camera type. As you approach a camera warning siren sounds followed by a second warning as you get closer.
EZCam also has full support for SPECS Average Speed Cameras and auto-resets when approaching a SPECS zone. This allows you can track your speed through the zone. There is also a radar view which shows all cameras within 1000m of your current heading.
Further information is available at the authors web-site here and EZCam is available via the Android Market for £1.50.

Hello All,
Just thought I'd keep you informed of some new features since EZCam was announced.
* Map view has been added showing nearby cameras
* Power management control for keeping screen bright or dim
* Day and night colour settings
* Disabling of individual sounds
* Sound alerts can be disabled if you're within the speed limit
* Improved background operation. EZCam will now produce popup alerts when the app is sent to the background eg: when taking an incoming call.
I regularly update EZCam and there are more features to come in the coming weeks.

Just a word or warning. None rooted on Orange.
With the latest ROM update for HTC Hero UK, EZCam (along with alot of other paid AND free apps) gets removed from the Market.
Had to go back to the previous ROM to get them all back. |

This app costs £1.99 now.
I wish there was an option to assign custom sounds to different camera types. |

Great app... though I hate that second alert/faux-siren sound! Reminds me of those irritating noises my kids toys make. So yeah, customisable sounds please.
I'm using the free SpeedCameraPOI database and getting a fair few false alerts and warning about cameras on nearby/adjoining roads. Is PocketGPS better in this respect?
Cheers

Have a Desire and my Mac.
Bit of a fiddle to find the right folder to install, mainly because I had to keep dismounting the phone in order to access the file on the phone.
There is an EZCAM folder, and it is possible I can load the camera file into that and it will work.
Anyway, I have left it sitting all alone in the root of the SD card surrounded by folders.
It's loaded fine, all I need to do now is move from the sofa to see how it works.
