|
|
Hi all, just finished downloading new map Western + Central EU version 850.2801 to my Rider 1. Started to set up my home and found my house No does not exist now. Well its been there since 1907 and was found on the last map.
So I tried both postcode and address still no good. Down loaded the postcode files and put then in zip. Still no good, Whats happening?
Any Ideas?
Thanks John |

The postcode files don't normally get distributed with a new map (although that might have changed this time, I don't know...)
So your new map should have continued using the old codes.
Where did you download the new ones from, and what exact files did you put into the zip folder? |

Is your actual road still on the map? - Found under Browse Map.
I cant be certain, but I dont think address are held on the .postal file, only the post codes.
Just for info, you could have just copied over your mapsetting.cfg file into your new map, which saves your home and other settings for you. _________________ TomTom 700 GO user since Dec 2005.

Hi Thanks for the response, Yes my road still is there. The strange thing is I live at 68, when I put any even number in from 20 onwards it say's no match's found. It does offer the odd numbers!
I’ve looked out of the window and the house's are still there so it's not that.
More seriously I downloaded the files from the sticky link on this forum. Unzipped them and put them in the folder called zip. The files are
Great_Britain.postal and Great_BritainPostal.ver Hope this helps you cus I'm at a loss
Thanks again John |

That sounds right, so I'm afraid I'm stumped.
As for the house numbers I see that a lot - streets with only a tiny section of what should be there.
But as you saying that the numbers USED to be there with your old map, sounds like TT have made another big b***s up. |

John, What version of PostCode data have you downloaded, open the UK .ver file by right clicking it and select open with/ notepad, this should tell you the version, I am not too sure if the v850 postcode data has been loaded to the TT server yet so you probably have v845 postcodes unless you receive an e-mail from somewhere containing something different.....

many roads have different postcodes for the odd & even Nos. (and change along the length if they are really long) try altering the last letter to either the one before or after and see what happens.
Sounds like a slight slip of the fingers at TT _________________ TomTom ONE Series 30 (v8) & TMC traffic

Hmmm. The GB postcode version on my brand new GO550 Live (updated to App 9.026 and map 850) was v835 - until two minutes ago after your post reminded me to look! _________________ Dennis

This sounds like more of a problem with the map data and not the postcode file to me. If you search by street name do you get the same response?
Also, zoom in on your street on 'browse map'. When you select a section of road, it shows the odd and even numbers at each end (may have an X if that 'side' has no numbers). If it's not showing, it's the map data that's missing.
I have this problem but at least TomTom thinks my place has never existed. _________________ Gerry

Does anyone know how the postcode lookup tables actually work?
Does the TomTom convert the entered postcode into Lat/Long coords and then find those on the map, or does it use some other method? |

Hi All
It looks like all the house numbers even have gone from a number of roads around me. I followed Mike's advice and used browse map to check.
I think I'll try downloading the new map again just to see

The Lat/Long then, generally, appended the nearest road name. Now that the File is encrypted it is difficult to find out how the data is used.
In the V7.9xx software if you select OK (when asked for a house number), it will display the actual Lat/long. If you input a house number, that will override the Lat/Long and displays where the Map thinks that house is.
I believe the V8.xxx navcore works slightly differently. _________________ Richard
