Having used this site and forum to assist my purchase of an in-car gps I decided to go with the TTG despite one or two people advising that it was perhaps best to wait 6 months or so to enable them to iron out any teething problems, this being a new unit etc.

Anyway, it arrived the day nefore yesterday and I must say how pleased I am with it. Dave's report (somewhere on here) is extremely accurate and apart from the screen being a little too refective in sunlight and getting a bit dirtly with fingerprints, it's a sumer little unit.

Unfortunately when adjusting the bracket with which the TTG must be affised to the dash/screen, one of the knows came away in my hand.

For those of you familiar with handheld bracket mounted units most will accept these mountings have both horizontal and vertical planes which, when one finds the optimin position you simply tighted the knobs and there it stays. On my Garmin GPSMAP76 bracket the agjustments are made and kept in place by a set of toothed spindles.

Unfortunately the TTG bracket has smooth points of contact which unfortunately are not secure enough to ride the bumps and bangs of my car (Audi A4). Therefore it kept sliding out of its vertical position.

Upon tightening the bracket one of the knobs fell off. Anyway, to cut a long story short I contacted TTG including a photograph and an explination along with a request that they send a replacement bracket from The Netherlands as the retailer did not hold one in stock and that further I did not feel obliged to inccur the time, energy and resourses of sending the whole unit back and haveing to await its replacement especially when taking into account thatI'm just aboout to depart for a family holiday. Sounds reasonable to me.

Anyway, they reverted with a one line response saying (if I knew how to copy it to here I would) "see your retailer".

I reverted with "yes, see your point, however, can you help as retailer will only request total reshippment etc"

They repsponded with, "you have a contract with your retailer, if you don't want to do it that way, we cant discuss it further".

I replyed seeking the M.D's name to which they only offered the Customer Services Managers name.

I am now awaiting a response from him before writing directly to the M.D.

In the meantime I've asked the online retailer (TTG recommended) what they can do to help. However and regardless, be warned TT are not very user / consumer friendly.

I've also pointed out that I'm a member of this forum along with a number of others RIBNET / SINGLETRACKWORLD / LANDROVER etc as well as WHICH.

To be honest I don't think they care, however, given the aggressive nature of thir industry and the power of the consumer to influence other buyers through forums such as this, I feel they're being rather naive even if, as some of you may feel, I'm asking too much !

In conclussion, if I don't get a satisfactory response I'll be claiming a refund from the retailer (he won't be happy I'm sure) writing to the M.D to advise why and siting as many ways as possible that I'll be sharing my bad experiences with prospective TomTom customers.

........I bought it from NAVCITY who offered a superd service and very comprtitive price. I'll use them again when purchasing the Garmin630i.

I didn't have any problems fitting it.

It stayed put over rough ground,your probably to HEAVY handed.

I think most user will agree with me on that point. As for tomtom response, your contract is with the retailer, NOT TOMTOM. If the retailer wanted the whole unit back, why not send it back, or is it your wanting just your money back.

There's MORE happy customers using TTgo

No I wasn't heavy handed.

No, I don't want my money back, in fact I really like the TTG it's functional and cool at the same time.

What I don't want to do is have to send the whole thing back an invonvnience myself whilst doing so - simple. Why the hell should I have to do all the leg work, Im the customer, I've just spent £450, I expect some co-operation.

Further, my comments and anger stemed from an extremely poor response from TT. If on the oher hand they had been polite I may have said, "oh waht the hell, a pain in the arse but that's life" and got on with it, however, they were almost rude let alone polite and professional.

Would I buy a T product again - NO WAY. Do I like the TTG, sure do.

As yet they have not replyed to my last mail. I will keep you informed.

Your complaint is with the RETAILER, not TomTom.

Yes you contacted TT, they are the maufactors who sold it to the retailers.

The retailer as given you the opertunity to resolve your problem by asking for the whole unit back. As you only want to send the Mounting bracket, the retailer would be left with a TT Go WITHOUT ONE.He would have to open a NEW BOX.

Sending the WHOLE unit back, he would replace with same, then he returns faulty TT Go to manufactors.

If your in "Sales" you should know about "Sale of goods act"

Why does the retailer simply not swap over the mount from a new Go box and then he can simply return the whole unit back to TomTom, after all that's what they want, plus you would not have to re-register a new unit...
