|
|
Is it possible to buy an annual subscription to the speed camera database as a gift for someone? How would I achieve this? Would I be able to safeguard my credit card information from the recipient and prevent renewals inthe future?
It seems at the moment that *I* need to register and subscribe and then hand over my details to the recipient, or set up a subscription in their name but using my payment details. This all seems a bit messy and insecure either for me or the recipient.
How do I buy a 12 month gift subscription for somebody else? |

Hi, have a look here at payment methods, number 3 is by check or postal order, that way your friend wouldn't have you bank details. You could always regester and give their e-mail address, then explain to them, this is your name, password, and I have paid for 12 months of downloads.

Thanks for that. I did see those payment options but they are a bit Dickensien. My current account doesn't come with a chequebook and a trip to the post office to buy a postal order is so "last century". These days I run my life online. I'd far rather just press a few buttons to get what I need. All this paperwork and traipsing around the streets is a real downer |

I don't have a Nochex account, although I see it is free to sign up for one so that would not be a big deal. But I already have a Paypal account in any case so I guess that would be just as good. My concern is that with any electronic payment method I use I don't know whether my payment details would be retained with my subscription and whether they could then be accessed or re-applied in 12 months time. If I knew that my payment details were not retained and could not be accessed or reused in the future without being re-entered then that would not be a problem but I can't tell whether or not that is the case from the website.
What would be nice is for the site to have a "buy a gift subscription" option where one could make a one off payment and enter the recipient's email address and the site could then send an invitation email on the appointed date to let the recipient know they have a gift. |

You could just make your own (cheesy i know) Gift Certificate in Word or something and then once your friend has paid with their credit card / paypal etc you can reimburse them. |

Just pay by paypal. Firstly I'm pretty sure the details are not used for recurrent payments and to make sure just go to paypal's site and look at subscriptions. If there is a recurrent payment set up ( there won't be) then just delete it.

We do not offer recurring subscriptions so there is no risk of your details being used to renew a subscription in the future. However we are introducing a voucher system for retailers and this might be a solution for you. Although yours is the first such request for a gift subscription it's a good idea and I'll discuss with the team _________________ Darren Griffin |

Just to dig this thread back up. Now the circumstances have changed over recurring payments and they are automatically applied how do I get my Brother to pay my subscription as a one off payment. Ideally I'd like to see a html page where I can send him to buy the subscription and enter my username so it is applied to my account.
However I cannot as he will be billed annually if he pays by paypal. Nochex I'm not sure about and I see he can post you a cheque. Any updates on offering the database as a sign up page or as a gift card/certificate I'm sure that would be a way of getting more subscribers?
The only options I can see are:
1. Request a payment by paypal, he sends me £19.99 which I then apply by paying through paypal (but he may incur charges for this method.)
2. He uses Nochex - Not sure how this gets applied to my account and if he gets a recurring charge?
3. Snail mail get him to send a cheque.
Surely there's an easier method, especially in the four years that have passed since this thread started. Surely with birthdays as an annual thing there's a demand?

I can't see your subscription status so I'm assuming you have a PayPal recurring subscription for your own use. If that's the case, it would be easier for your brother to give you a cheque with the birthday card (or even just the cash) and let your subscription go through as usual.
If he's paying for your initial year, set up the PayPal and pay it yourself and get him to give you the cheque/cash/alcohol to cover it. You won't have to change anything next year then. _________________ Gerry

If he/she pays by PayPal they can immediately cancel the recurring payment part via their PayPal account. There is no requirement for anyone to maintain it. NoChex has no recurring subscription commitment. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'll do the old fashioned method - pay by paypal and get him to give me the cash.
Just wondered if nochex could accept payment by him and if he inserted my username etc it would be credited to my account, but without entering ficticious details I couldn't see how.
Thanks for you replies. I was visualising an itunes style card appearing in Sainsburys to boost the subscriptions or at this stage a paypal button!

He'd need to be logged into your account here before he paid with NoChex for that to work.
Were it a more oft requested feature we'd look at implementing it but it required a great deal of work and given the handful of requests we've had it can't be justified _________________ Darren Griffin |
