|
|
Hi all,
Have just bought the 950 Go Live after having a trusty 910 for 3 years.
First impressions are great! The front end GUI is nice and love the way it connects to HD traffic and the performance of Google local search is also fantastic!
The only problem for me is the map seems really chuggy when driving a route!! Even with all the POIs' turned off!! It's about 1 frame per second!!
The 910 is much quicker and seems more easier on the eye whilst driving!
Is this just me or can you make it perform at a better frame rate???
Cheers all - Pudders |

That does seem slow, my own 940 seems to update at around 2 - 3 frames per second. That's with over 50 POIs (PGPS are disabled from view).
I also have a 910 and agree with you - it does seem quicker (especially when cpying file to it - although that's a different thing).
Not used a x50, but I'm sure others will be able to compare. _________________ (Older kit: TomTom Go Original, 910, 940 Live, 1005 Live and Snooper S4 Neo. Mazda TomTom NB1 built-in). |

Ok - probably is around 2-3 frames per sec but for what is sposed to be their flagship bit of kit... not really impressed!!
Can anyone else confirm this is normal?? |

The 910 will refresh the map more often as its got the same RAM and processor speed as fitted to the 950 BUT it doesn't have to deal with IQ Routes or HD Traffic.
I think the current hardware platform which offers 64MB RAM coupled with a processor churning away at 400MHz is getting a little over burdened so something has to give way.
The read speed of the built in Flash memory is also an issue when you compare the 910 with its spinning hard drive and the 950 with its slower Flash drive - Fit a decent quality high speed Class 6 or higher Micro SDHC card to it and it makes a noticeable difference - Mike |

Forgive me for being a bit thick Mike, but how do I get the device to read the maps off the SD card if they are already installed on the flashdrive? Is there an option to change this? Or better still... a tutorial anywhere?

To have the device read off the Micro SD card... would it be a case of making a backup, wiping the entire device and then copying it all back to the SD card so it will read it from there?

Copy everything from the device to the PC using Windows Explorer then copy it to the memory card, you can then delete the map folders from the internal storage space which forces the device to use the data on the card - Mike |

I tried a class 4 which I had and it didn't seem to make much difference! I tried it both by just having the maps on the card and OS on the device and then by having all the contents from the device on the card and the device wiped.
Will class 6 make a massive difference? Has it been tried and tested anywhere?

I use class 6 in my 950 and in my 940 and it does make a noticable difference in the time the device takes to plan a route, the screen refresh rate is slightly better but not a huge increase in frames per second - Mike |

Thanks for the info mike,
How have you got the 950 setup. OS on device & Maps on card or all on card? |

I have Navcore software of different versions on the Flash memory and the Micro SD, I also have maps on both, this lets me swap out the two versions nice and easily when on the road if I don't like what the device is doing - Note this sort of approach isn't really needed for a "normal" user of the end product but I do tend to mess around with different versions of software on a regular basis (test related) - Mike |

Mike, could you recommend a decent make. The internet is full of them, but how do you check the quality ?
I need one for my GO950. I'm not concerned re the refresh rate, but more about the time it takes to plan a route - some of mine a pretty long.
