It says SD/mini/MMC/RS. Isn't that enough - it loads ok, green lights and windows sees it now.
As I said, it now reads the card as 8GB, and I can look at it, but it is reporting "write-protected". Windows recognised it and loaded the hardware settings too - reported ready to use etc.
The problem is the "write protection."
How do you remove "write protection" or is this report signifying that my reader is having compatibility problems reading the SDHC Card/writing to it? _________________ TT Go 920T

If the card reader doesn't specifically say "SDHC" then it won't be guaranteed to be compatible.
But in a previous post you said the physical "lock" switch was getting slid over when you put the card in the slot. I had that happen on my very first TomTom SD card. On that one a small piece of sticky tape over the switch cured the problem, but I suspect that might be difficult on a micro-sized card.
Maybe a little trim of the plastic slider with a razor blade?
Next question... Why are you using a card reader at all?
You should be able to check if you can format or write to the card while it is in the TomTom (although I know you MIGHT have problems with Home when you actually try to put the map on the card rather then the internal memory). |

Is this issue with an x50 or the 920 in your sig block which might be out of date? I only ask for clarification as this thread was to do with a 950 as I recall
Looking at your sig block and assuming its an x20 device you are running an unofficial Navore on the device which might explain/ be responsible for the issue of not supporting SDHC cards (just a guess but strange things like this can and do occur) - Try re-installing Navcore 8,351 to the device and then see if it can see the SDHC card.
MicroSD cards don't have a read/ write switch only the addaptor they fit in to has this - Mike |

Thanks gentlemen,
Andy-P - there was space to put a bit of sticky tape over the lock slider - and this has done the trick! I have now copied maps to the SD card and am a happy bunny.
One question, having copied the maps to the SD card, is it now safe to delete the map folder from the internal memory via Windows Explorer? _________________ TT Go 920T

Use Explorer to copy the map folder from internal to your computer. Make sure it is indeed backed up before deleting the folder from internal. After all, if the card gets screwed up, you don't want to be left without the map to restore. _________________ David |

What is the solution to this problem? surely tom tom should get their act together and give out clear instruction to this or give out a recall alert. Updating maps should be a basic simple operation for a unit costing this amount and we should not have to worry about this. I have just bought this and don't know whether to buy extra card or start deleting files on internal memory. If using external memory is this as fast as internal in normal use/operation i.e map redraws? |

Yes, possibly even a bit faster. |

Go for a Class 6 or even class 8 SDHC card as these are the fastest, with a decent card fitted the route planning is far faster than when using the internal memory - Mike |
