Neill, "Extract Files" is the correct choice. This will open up WinRar and near the top you click/choose the path to your TomTom where to extract to.

Neill, just going back to your previous comments about the files described as "recovered file fragments" (i.e. the ones with the .chk extension to their names). DON'T WORRY, AND DON'T DELETE THEM.

Windows itself uses the .chk extension for these fragments often left over after a crash, but your TomTom ISN'T based on Windows. The TomTom system and the Linux operating system it's based on can use the .chk letters for anything they like (in this case it's the voice and sound effects files).

So it's Windows getting it wrong and mis-reporting them. But it doesn't matter, just ignore the description.

Still no luck Sad I got the unpacked files on to the TT but still the same problem. I decided to delete everything and start again but everytime I try to use TT Home (I downloaded a new version just to be sure) to do anything up comes the parse error message and it won't continue. I did manage to delete everything once before though but with no change. Crying or Very sad

I think I will leave this for now and wait for someone who actually knows what they doing to look at it. Laughing Thanks to everyone for all your help and I will report back here when I get to the bottom of it.

Thanks to entwood for the offer, I'm in N. Cornwall so a bit too far away!

I did say I would report back. I got my son in law to look at it. He works in IT builds his own stuff and fixes all my computer problems in minutes! He spent a good couple of hours on it and it still wouldn't get past the splash screen. He got it to update (in stages) to the latest version and did something to the hard drive (formatted it maybe?). Since then Windows doesn't come up with the weird error messages anymore. I think he was quite surprised it wouldn't respond to treatment. He says it's either the hard drive or the firmware. Since then I've run the flash tool a few times for good measure. TomTom still no workie Crying or Very sad

Anyway, thanks once again for all your help. Thumbs Up

Thanks for coming back and giving us an update. Pity it did not work out for you. If you are thinking of having it looked at professionally, refurbed 910 are on sale for less than £100, so do not spend too much on it.
Good luck
