|
|
When I connect the TT to my laptop, home starts and the TT screen asks to conect to pc I click yes and Home checks the device for updates. whilst it is connected the screen of the TT goes from the graphic of the TT and the graphic of the TT with a red cross over a hand saying dont disconnect. it cycles like this all the time. If i try and copy say a camera file across to the TT when the graphic is just the TT (no hand) I get an I/O error message of saying the file is corrupt. Sometimes when I connect to Home and go to manage my XXL there are no maps showing in the list and the memory bar shows 0MB free, a couple of eject/reconnects later Home shows all is well with 100MB free. Its as if it is connecting/disconnecting all the time although it shows connected all the time in the bottom right corner of Home
Also If I try and do a backup It says I need about 6GB free on my pc to do this? when checking the installed camera poi files in manage my XXL it shows each catagory as 12220.0MB. Prior to the problem of disk space before putting the cameras on I still couldn't do a backup as it reported some files were corrupt,
The TT works fine on the road but this connection problem is starting to annoy me (this is a replacement XXL for the first one that had a disk error and wouldn't even format, yes hours spent on the TT support line!!!)
Have tried TT resets and computer reboots and different cables but still the same problem. Is this another dud unit? |

Are you running any antivirus software on your PC?
If so, disable it.
Also, try running a Windows Checkdisk. |

Do you have another PC you could try it on to see if it is the same - at least it will pinpoint if the problem is the TT or at the PC end. |

Hi
If you are trying to load none TT supplied data Home should not be running, you should only be using Explorer.

Totally cheesed off with this unit now.
Found a couple of corrupt files in ephin and statdata folders. tried everything to remove them, even chkdisk wouldnt sort it. I had a manual copy of the TT so decided to reformat it. Now it has wiped everything during the reformat(as it should) but says it cannot complete the format and the TT is recognised but not formatted. I cannot format it now no matter how many times I try.
What a pile of junk (the 2nd one I've had) So do I take it back for a refund or swap it for a new one and hope it's 3rd time lucky!! |

Only you can really answer that! If you like the unit in use, I'd get another.
You may have just been unlucky, or just maybe there's something about your PC that is corrupting it? I know from experience as I have a PC that works 99% of the time but has something nasty that causes Explorer to crash, and it's usually when I have an external drive (often it's a TomTom!) connected via USB.
I assume you always use the "Safely remove hardware" button, before you disconnect the TomTom from the USB cable??? |

Managed to format the TT ok on another PC and copy across my backup and all is well. Connected back to my laptop to transfer the PGPSW speed camera files and started to get I/O errors again so did it on the other PC.
So looks like the laptop is at fault. I have no problems with any other device I connect to the laptop so now need to find out if its a software or hardware problem. Just worried that buying a new laptop may still give problems if its a software problem, maybe re-installing windows XP may the way to go and see if that fixes it. |

Are you connecting directly to a usb socket on the laptop, and not using a hub? _________________ Anita

Sounds like it is drawing too much current from the usb ports to me - if you have a powered usb hub you could try that? |

Haven't got one but may well borrow one as I'll try anything.
Other devices Pocket pc, smartphones etc that also recharge at the same time dont seem to have any problems or is the TT very power hungry, It has problems even if it is fully charged. |
