It appears that the Event Logger program still works ok in the background of units with ver 8.35. However, this program does suffer with the same problem as other 3rd party programs and 8.35, the program will not display in the unit. I have reinstalled Event Logger, with no affects to the TT unit. All features of event logger appear normal, you can still open GPX log files in IE and produce a detailed log of your trip and accompaning map. The astonomical feature appears to be working, the unit still going into and out of night mode as per the suns location and your relevant location on the earths surface.
The authou Amacri is aware of the process to fix trip master, with 8.35, but is also investigating other fixes to the 8.35 problem with 3rd party programs. He is confident a fix will be found wthout too much problems. Maybe, as being reported, it was an unintentional side effect of TT fixing flickering problems and they themselves will develop a fix (along with a few other bugs, ie volume etc).
I think the ability of using other 3rd party programs and your TT, would make their units more saleable, save TT having to develope such features that users would like and keep both TT and the user happy. |

This installation guide is based on my own simple experience with TomPlayer today - literally I have just installed and got up and running - its 4:50am here, and my coughing was going to wake the wife and our little girl, so I've come into my home office so as not to disturb them!
Right here goes - this is for an updated Tomtom 730 using Navcore 8.350 with v830.2305 maps - yep, bang up to date as of 25/05/2009 - I have mine set up using the maps and everything from the SD Card so yours might be a little different. When I update using HOME - I choose the SD Card to update, and then the Tomtom, just to give you an idea of how I'm setup!
1. Download the Tomplayer app - I'm using v0.220.
2. Open the zip file
3. Pop your Tomtom in its dock - CLOSE TOMTOM HOME - we are going to do this using Windows Explorer/File Manager - your SD Card will show as Removable Disk or somesuch, your Tomtom as Tomtom with the little Tomtom icon.
4. Don't just extract everything straight onto the SD Card - you might just copy over something important and screw your Tomtom - I recommend backing up first (even though I didn't!)
5. I extracted the following stuff from the zip into the following directories on my SD Card
Contents of the SDKRegistry directory into the SDKRegistry directory on my SD Card - I had to copy that from the TomTom onto the SD Card first - 2 files - tomplayer.bmp & tomplayer.cap
Contents of the tomplayer directory into a directory called tomplayer on my SD Card - It just created the tomplayer directory for me and unzipped all the files to the right place
Contents of the Video directory into a directory called Video on my SD Card - again, just created - the directory is empty until you fill it with the good stuff !
Contents of the Audio directory into a directory called Audio on my SD Card - again, just created - the directory is empty until you fill it with the good stuff !
DO NOT COPY ACROSS THE TTSYSTEM FILE - YOU MIGHT CORRUPT SOMETHING - This is the only file I did not take across onto my Tomtom or SD Card. I don't know how or why mine worked, but try my way first.
5. Remove the Tomtom from its dock - restart it. You should now see 4 menu pages instead of 3 - page 4 should contain the TomPlayer app logo. Click on it and it should start - thats what happened to me.
6. First time you start its a bit strange - I thought I'd killed my Tomtom, but it was just a calibration screen for the pointy bit of TomPlayer! Tap where it asks you, and when done TomPlayer will hopefully start!
7. Fill the Video directory with films etc, Audio directory with MP3's etc.
8. Enjoy.
I don't think you can you the navigation side of your Tomtom when using TomPlayer - haven't tried that yet, but hey you now have another side to your Tomtom kit! |

Slightly off-topic, but while Googling for something TomTom-related, I came across THIS.
Seems to be a "TomTom" navigation add-on for people playing the World of Warcraft adventure game!
Quote: | TomTom is your personal navigation assistant in World of Warcraft.
TomTom offers the following major features:
* Set waypoints via command, or by clicking on the world map
* A draggable coordinate display with customizable accuracy. This frame can be hidden or locked.
* Player and cursor coordinates on the World Map (these can be hidden)
* A floating "crazy-taxi" style arrow that points you to your destination
* Displaying the "crazy-taxi" arrow or coordinate block in compatible LDB displays, such as NinjaPanel
* Show a waypoint that points you towards your corpse for easy recovery |

FireTom
Enables tracking of your location over the internet, which can then be viewed in several applications including Google Maps!
According to the website, it works with any model with connection to the internet, except the x40 models and the One 3rd edition (so probably excludes the new range One and XL too).

Have we seen the end of 3rd party applications , since the mid nav core 8.3's +, there does not seem to be many if any new versions in the 3rd party world. I am running 9.025 and havent seen any that go near the navcore 9 version.

Unfortunately, TomTom pretty much killed off third-party apps, when they stopped supporting and updating their own Software Developers' Kit.
Without that, it is an almost impossible task to get add-ons to work, or to keep them working after a new software version is produced.
A VERY short-sighted decision by TomTom IMHO, considering the phenomenal success of add-on apps on things like the iPhone. |

Hello,
2010 could well be one more year with plugins on Tomtom, as Amacri, EventLogger developer, has found a solution to have plugins working on v8.x and v9.x navcore.
Tripmaster v3.0 is available and works on both Navcore. I will release Offroad 3.0 in the next coming days and my other plugins will also modified in the next coming weeks.
I will also release a personal SDK that will allow other developers to create their own apps. |

This is great news, more information though please. I went to Amacri's site and saw no reference to such an advance with navcore 9.

Fantastic news roussillat, I take my hat off to you designers who persist against the odds.
The thought of a "home-made" SDK is nothing short of amazing! |

Thanks for the link and it does look like 3rd party programs may have some more life. I wonder when Alberto will put out a new Eventlogger version? Lets hope tomtom see sense and value to their product, with 3rd party programs AND NOT FIDDLE WITH THEIR PROGRAM TO MAKE THESE PERSONS ENDEAVOURS ANY HARDER THAN WHAT IT IS NOW!!

Hi,
I have got tripmaster loaded and working with the Navcore 9. I have not used the program before and it appears to be usefull, but,I can not work out how to reset the total duration distance and time features. Intermediate time and distance is easy, but in what I have read so far, cant seem to reset the total ones. Is there a very good "manual" somewhere, because what I have looked at so far, is very technical and not very user orientated.
