I'm using Copilot Live 8 on my iPhone (not jail broken, the regular app with the built in camera database) - will the camera alerts go off near a camera if I just have the app running but without a route planned?
Thanks,
Dave. |

One of the better points of CP8 ? I wish my TT would do the same. |

TomTom does this IF you don't check the radio box labeled "Warn only if POI on route" when configuring the Warn when near POI option - Mike |

Yes, but then you get warnings off your route, which is a bit daft...why would I want a warning on a side road ! Anyway, a Happy Christmas Mike, to you and yours !
ps Even dafter, why would CP8 want to 'ding' you, right , virtually, on top of the camera....should tie in with the 1000 yards or whatever setting you choose. |

Warnings on side roads seems a bit daft, but for all it knows, you may be about to turn into that side road. So I'll allow it those ones.
Warnings on roads parallel to the one I'm on are a little more annoying (I know of a few on the motorways that are triggered by nearby A/B roads running parallel), but they have to allow for the GPS error margin. You could be on either road at that point. So I'll grudgingly accept those.
The ding. Hmm. One thing I like about CPL8 is the little display of actual speed vs camera setting with the red/green background. What is next to useless is that it vanishes (usually accompanied by a ding) just as you reach the camera, when most cameras are rear facing (i.e. Gatso not Truvelo). So for exactly the period when I want to be certain my speed is safe, I lose the warning... |
