I notice that the RH can swivel - can it go as far as 180 degrees (ie facing the back window)? Just in case you were still alert enough after a rear-end shove to do it to get at least SOME evidence.

It could if using the temporary mount. The permanent fix mount offers no adjustment at all, the adjustment is at the lens which can be angled up/down as necessary.

Seems like a great bit of kit this Darren, my concern would be the likelyhood of finding a switched ignition live up behind my mirror, and having a convertible the chance of using the head linning is somewhat limited.

Are you familiar with any thing along these lines that could go behind the grill therefore requiring them to be weatherproof?

A good review by the way.

The power cable supplied is more than long enough to route round screen and down to the dash where power feeds should not be an issue. This is the intended installation method. Those with ignition controlled power at the mirror are lucky but in the minority!

I'd suggest wiring a standard install with cable routed to dash fusebox. The device can be easily removed in seconds as power is supplied via a small plug and even with the permanent mount, the RH-1 will unclip from it very easily.

If wiring is the issue any decent auto-electrician could connect it and it would be a simple job.

Whilst there are plenty of cameras that can be used externally, none offer the same feature set. To add a DVR recorder etc would add considerably to the cost and you would still not have the tamper-proof file format, GPS overlay etc that the RH-1 offers and which are its main benefits.

Hi, just a point, the recorded files are date & time stamped. You just need to press the record button in/on the main screen when the view screen is open.

Thanks Ted (and welcome!). The car isn't here at the moment but I'll try that when I can get at the SD card!

I have been using one for a week now and it has its good points and a couple of bad ones too. I drive at night delivering urgent spares to Field Engineers, either direct to their vehicles or into designated exchange points.
The quality and clarity of the film is good even in dark and poor weather conditions. I have been using a 4mb card set on VGA and 30fps as I was unsure of the amount of time a 2mb card might give me and I have found this was more than adequate to cover an 8 hour shift with room to spare.

I am able to review my nights work at the end of each shift and confirm Delivery times and highlight problem deliveries. This will always be useful when a client claims a delivery was not made or was late.

I have it rigged so that it records constantly and not just when the ignition is on, so that everything that happens during a run is captured, even when I stop for my daily Mcbacon Roll & Coffee for breakfast.

It has recorded several instances of driver stupidity namely by Taxi's ( Who'd have believed it ) overtaking on the inside, driving through red lights and cutting me up at road junctions. There was also an instance when I was stopped at an exchange and a car drove into the garage and parked up opposite me with 4 up. After watching me for a while the driver opened his window and asked me what I was doing, they were suitably informed and then drove away, as well as having to be aware of whats happening around me when making deliveries, its good to have a back up of any unusual events in case something ever does go wrong.

Despite adjusting the settings every day to try and find the right balance and due to the nature of the poor road surfaces the camera constantly runs into Shock Mode and whilst it does record everything its all in little bits and not a continuous stream.

All in all its a good bit of kit, it provides photographic evidence of all deliveries & collections made and if as they say in the adverts that it can cut the cost of my insurance ( The Jury is still out on that one ) then its well worth the cost.

Thanks for exactly what I've been waiting to hear. Just one further question - how long are you keeping a day's records? The customer who claims it wasn't on time or didn't arrive or went into the wrong exchange cupboard? Would you fancy having say half a dozen 4GB cards to keep a record for a week (or two 32GB cards for a fortnight, or a month)?

The images are broken into packets by design. That is necessary to allow it to continuously record and overwrite older files if needed.

Dennis
You can I believe save the videos onto your computer and destroy them at your convenience, that way you only need the one card and you can clear it every day.

Darren
I am aware that the video runs in 5 minute sections, however the problem I have been encountering is that unless I was driving on the motorway the system kept reverting to Shock Mode. I have, with consultation with Dogcam reset the values to try and alleviate this problem and hopefully tonight will finally sort the problem out, failing that I will probally sell it and look for a straight forward Incar Video cam.

I had that issue at first but adjusted the threshold values for the shock sensor. This was in a convertible with a relatively hard rise, wide low-profile tyres etc.

After that it was fine.

Is this the easy answer (expensive) to Speed Camera Spotting as the Google Map shows the point where the camera is on the recorded video?
Interesting Device.
Very Happy

Be aware that those offering this cheaper are not always offering the same accessories, eXpansys do not include the suction mount for example.

Be sure to check what you are getting before you grab that bargain.

I've just been catching up with this product and the discussion and I'm really keen on buying this. Although I do not intentionally speed, I don't constantly stare at my speedo so I'm sure I've drifted up slightly from the speed limit from time to time*.

What happens if someone else causes an accident e.g. they pull out from a parked position into my path. But the device caught me during one of these times of slightly speeding. E.g. it said I was doing 31 mph in a 30 mph area. If the video clearly showed that the accident would have still happened had I been going 30 mph, then could the courts still turn it around on me by saying that it was caused because I was speeding?

Any thoughts or opinions?

* I've been driving for 12 years with no accidents and no speeding fines so I do consider myself a safe and cautious driver. I personally think I'm driving safer by keeping my eyes on the road and not on the speedo (even if that means I do go a couple mph over the limit at times).
