I have a Nuvi 265W which I am very happy with (apart from one small problem). I am considering the 'lifetime maps' option but I have a few niggles with the on/off switch, so much so that I opened it up. Fact is I couldn't see anything wrong and closed it up again - but it now seems fine.

My question is, if the switch does give up the ghost, how easy and how good are Garmin at repairs? There is no point buying 'lifetime maps' if the lifetime is short!

Thanks

I'd be inclined to have another careful look inside to see if the internal switch seems loose. Some people had a similar problem with another make of satanv which was the result of internal soldering contacts breaking so that the swich didn't make contact with the external button when it was pressed.

If it does seem loose in anyway, or bent out of position, I'd send it back to Garmin and find out how good they are Razz (I believe they are quite reasonable).

I've usually found that problems vary rarely actually vanish into thin air, but always come back and bite you!

And before you shell out for the lifetime updates have a look at this

Thanks for the response

I have had a read at the other thread and it sounds like the customer service I have come to expect nowadays!!!!

Having said that 1 or 2 updates a year for say 4 or 5 years would still be good value, I could put up with the odd mistake, I tend to do a bit of goolge map research before I travel anyway.

Hopefully my switch will continue to work for a while

Thanks

My switch broke on my nuvi760 and I used satnav repair centre 117a North end Rd, London W14 9NL - they charged £56.73 plus VAT and return postage for special next day delivery - turned the repair round in three days replaced the whole switch section . Well impressed
