Remove all the "greater than" (or "less than") symbols. .i.e the straight line brackets. Then try reposting the error here.

You could try uninstalling 2.6 from the computer (using Add/Remove programs) and getting the latest application (2.7) from TT's site and try installing that.

Use this link

Uninstall/reinstall will encounter problems unless the 'old' file is re-named e.g. Home_old.

When you uninstall Home it will still leave a file on your 'C' Drive "Tom Tom Home 2" or similar - if you leave it you will experence problems with the re-install.
So having uninstalled the old programme, go to Start / My Computer / C Drive / Program Files and search for the old Tom Tom file, e.g. 'Tom Tom Home 2' - right click on the file and select 'Rename' then change it to anything you want e.g. 'Home_old'.
Having done that, install the new Home programme.
After installation you can go back into Program Files and delete the file you renamed as 'Home-old'.

That is the response from Tom Tom Support that worked for me.

Oh dear - don't you just hate computers!

Can you take your PC back to the state it was in before you downloaded Home 2.6 on Friday?

Start / Help & Support / Tools / System Restore
Find the point where you downloaded Home (or as near as possible before) and select the option to restore you PC to then (it will return your settings etc to what they were before you downloaded - you won't lose any emails etc but it will affect any NEW programmes installed since that time).

Once it has completed the restore (it will need to restart you PC .. don't panic!) do what I outlined above AGAIN, i.e. uninstall the old Home (which should now be back to how it was before you updated) and then change the name of the file that is left over in Program Files after the uninstall.

So you should now have uninstalled Tom Tom Home and changed the name of the Tom Tom file in Program Files.

Now go to the Tom Tom website and download and install Home 2.7 - hopefully it will work successfully this time.

That's another thought......

Have you rebooted the computer between the 2.6 uninstall and the 2.7 install? If not do a reboot now and try connecting the unit to Home again.

That is weird, I had issues but as soon as I did the uninstall, re-name and re-install my problems went away. Obviously something is causing a conflict on your PC, sometimes anti-virus programmes can do this; on one of my laptops I had Avast A/V installed and it would regularly cause the laptop to crash - had to remove it and now all is well.

There is a piece of free software that I use regularly called CCCleaner that removes all 'rubbish' left on a PC, including in the registry - you could do the restore again, then run CCCleaner and try again but beyond that I'm afraid that I don't have any further suggestions.

Edit
You didn't say you uninstalled 2.6 after the restore - did you miss that step
